DAVID vs GOLIATH? Sal Albanese debates Bill de Blasio tonight. Ch.2 at 7PM. The real election will be the Primary on Tues. Sept. 12. De Blasio may be more vulnerable than polls and media have public believe. With many former supporters of Mayor disappointed in past 4 years now seeking an alternative. As major party critics too spineless to run against an incumbent. If you want to see the giant come tumbling down don’t miss best opportunity to make it happen on Tues. Primary Day. The Hillary effect? Check out cover photo on current NY Magazine.

Wednesdays keeping coming, or I’m getting older. Probably both, actually. This week’s Old BH postcard shows the Montague Apartment Hotel, still there:

Should we be forewarned about any salacious details from the building’s past that could spark a long and confusing argument? The mind races at the scandalous possibilities.

  • Reggie

I am no fan of de Blasio’s but even I know that he is going to annihilate his opponents in the primary and easily beat his Republican challenger in the general election.

  • ykwthis

I’ll leave to others (for now) but several major buildings on Montague have amazing “histories”…….

I’ve often thought of writing a (very large) tome; “The secret history of the Heights….

    Subtitle: “America’s most occult neighborhood”……

Favorite new spot: the lounge chairs in the Pier 5 uplands in Brooklyn Bridge Park (I know, I never thought I’d say something so positive about the park here but they are quite nice – though I shouldn’t let the secret out).

Just before it gentrified that building was a “welfare hotel” housing families on public assistance.

Kind of a defeatist attitude. How about we all get off our butts and campaign for anyone else but him.

  • Reggie

Defeatist, realistic, whatever. A sufficient number of people are satisfied with the incumbent and his opponents aren’t remotely compelling enough. These are simple facts.

That’s an amazingly removed from reality viewpoint/mindset; the voters are by this point in the social decay process, inert. It would take an unimaginable level of stimulus for there to be a reaction that would unseat this guy. First of all, this guy has the direct or nominal backing of every major bank and financial institution and major NGO I deal with. Meanwhile, the agrigate level of thought/judgement capability in the population has crashed! Meanwhile the NY State Republican party like the national Republican party is using 80% of their time and energy trying to find a way to unseat Trump. So of course, Boss is doing a cakewalk……

  • ykwthis

Well, just a question: what Montague St Bar, which held very little interest to women in the area, had a back room. And what went on in there…and then, what used to go on in the…..basement(!!!!!!)

  • DIBS

    You must have frequented it!!!

    You lost your virginity?

  • ykwthis

No, guy, we blew the whistle on it to the cops, health Dept. one of my associates called NYS financial crimes.

  • Junior Thompson

Mr moderator, do I have to suffer abuse here in the august halls of this forum of high culture and wisdom?

Besides, everyone, at least everyone who who was aware fully knew all this was going on. The cops knew it, (it was brought up openly at the 84th PCT community council!!!!)
Owners of adjacent buildings knew all about it.
Finally, a lot of these vermin left for such wonderful scenes like the nursery. Remember that one kids? But the bar and several other unsavory locations certainly caused an atmosphere in which Man’s Country was set up. All this was a plague on this area…which we finally managed to bring under control.

Too bad you didn’t get swept up along with it!!!

I was on the Promenade Thursday evening and saw a drone, hovering over the area, zooming toward the Wall Street Heliport, etc. Called the police, but the drone’s owners—two guys in Brooklyn Bridge Park—retrieved it, got into a car standing in the parking lot next to Furman Street, and drove off before anyone could respond.

I’m waiting for a copter to have a collision, or worse…

  • Reggie

How many NGOs do you deal with, that is when you are not working as a journalist for unnamed outlets, or do you deal with the NGOs as part of that purported activity? Would you name any of your contacts?

  • Reggie

    …at 47.

Folks, the above last few postings are why I say does a nebula care if a group of fleas or microbes decide to shout insults at the nebula….

You probably cause more of a public safety issue, by tying up 911 operators and police with such trivial nonsense, than eliminating any real threat.

  • Pierrepont

Those drone guys are a menace!

  • Alden Pyle

Buddy’s, right? I think I remember that place.

  • Alden Pyle

There’s a weird guy I see a couple of times a week at Willow and Joralemon. Every day I walk up Joralemon to the subway at Court Street, usually in the early to mid-afternoon. Once or twice a week, there will be a man, often walking a dog, whose path crosses mine at Willow Street. Every time, he says something obnoxious about my hair. I’m male, it’s long enough to be in a ponytail (and has been for about forty years). He doesn’t look insane (although I know appearances can be deceiving). He’s neatly dressed, clean, has a shave and a haircut, etc. Nonetheless, I haven’t responded to him just in case he is unbalanced and can’t really help himself. If I knew he wasn’t insane, I’d respond. He doesn’t look particularly threatening. Certainly not intimidating.

Anyone have any idea who this man is or what his problem is? It’s really starting to get annoying. Why does he care so much?

  • Pierrepont

What with all of the helicopter/searchlight business?

  • Bornhere

Two men in custody for breaking into the construction site at Clinton and Remsen. Now they’re looking for another just seen on an adjacent roof.

  • Elaine Rendon

Was just about to ask the same thing. Thanks for answering.

  • gc

Does he have reddish hair? 60’s? If so, I’ve run into him. Seems harmless.

  • brooklynbull

Thank you! I was hoping it wasnt traffic helicopters … Interesting that a breaking/burglary gets the full-court pursuit treatment!
