Swastikas, Trump, And A Kids Park: A Personal Note

It’s Mrs. Fink. Hey!  I haven’t been here much.  Besides my daughter, my husband loved (LOVED) this blog and this community more than anything.

So, it’s hard for me.  Baby Fink, as Homer lovingly called her, had to witness his death in our Brooklyn Heights apartment.  That she, or ANY of our children have to witness the death of our country and our ideals on the playground we frequented? NOPE. No fucking way.

We took Baby Fink to Adam Yauch Park when it was named.  We spoke of his truths, his faith, the songs good and silly, and that he left this world peacefully.  We did this because we knew some of the people involved, we shared a love of music and, well. Our right to party!

I’m waiting for people to “teenage prank” this away.  Maybe it’s true, but, frankly, I don’t care.  Not one fucking iota. You don’t get to (incorrectly I might add) paint swastikas where our children play. Not precocious, not cute, just really, really racist.

My husband loved this community, this blog, the power of US.  Do NOT let us down. Just fucking don’t do it.

Let’s fight for our rights to justice,

We won’t let you down, Homer. We’ll fight, volunteer, donate, protect the targeted, and raise our boys to respect Baby Fink and all girls. And we’ll spread love, music, and humor, and carry on this blog, like you did. Love you, Mrs. Fink.

I love how bias the media is against trump. It’s obvious most of these incidents of vandalism is being done by liberals with the intentions of making trump look bad and the media is ecstatic to report the lies with out any proof. This is getting rediculous now.

    Oh no, I been flagged!!!!

  • http://RStanleyPaving.com/ the FART BREAK Kid

What did you flag my comment for? You can’t handle a view point different than your own? It’s really funny how you are offended by so little hahahaha

  • Rick Rowland

What evidence do you have? Or is this just a guess on your part?

  • http://lyndanaclerio.tumblr.com LyndaN42

You tell ’em, Mrs. Fink. Breaks my heart to see these fools stirring up hate and hurt. When I saw the news I said (to my TV, as I’ve been doing a lot this month), “MCA’ll get them for that.” I can only hope they grow up someday. Love to you and Baby Fink, and love to NYC.

  • Jorale-man

Sickening, sad and not altogether surprising. When you put white supremacists in the top levels of government, the hatemongers feel empowered. They target public spaces, and as we see here, they’ll target comment sections of neighborhood blogs.

  • AEB

Horrific, depressing, infuriating: welcome to Trump’s America. But we can stand together–at the very least.

I think I speak for all when I say that the BHB has become THE voice of our neighborhood, a place–as here, as of now–in which we, our neighbors, can join one another in protest and support.

For it, we thank Homer–and we send love and support to you and your daughter, Mrs. Fink!

  • Doug Biviano

Thank you Mrs. Fink. Yes this is absolutely disgusting. But I also find Brad Lander recklessly blaming this on Trump supporters without a shred of evidence to make such an accusation, equally as hateful, divisive and dangerous. People are already being attacked for who they voted for so his remark has no place whatsoever in civil discourse. Lander should apologize to us all for jumping on the hate train instead of trying to heal these divides. He should explain in his apology why his tweet was dangerous, divisive, hateful and just plain stupid.

Before I am attacked for calling out Lander know that I wrote to the Brooklyn Eagle in 2007 when this happened once before but not to divide but to heal. I looked to Martin Luther King for guidance and evoked him when I subsequently submitted a Peace and Non-violence Commission proposal to Mayor Bloomberg and Council Speaker Christine Quinn. It turned out that the 2007 hate crimes were not quite what they seemed on their face.

    and we loved Homer.

  • AEB

You DO realize that the words GO TRUMP appeared beneath the swastikas, don’t you?

  • Doug Biviano

Until Lander proves otherwise, his reckless and dangerous accusation on twitter is not standing up against hate but is hate and intorlerence. Lander needs to apologize.

  • StudioBrooklyn

Before I saw this post I commented on the previous article (of the same subject, “Adam Yauch Park Defaced…”), offering my suspicion that it might have been little more than a teenage prank (your words, Mrs. Fink).

I just want to state that I agree wholeheartedly with the assertion that it doesn’t matter whether this was a prank or “some kind of dormant Neo-Nazi Brooklynite sleeper cell having been activated by Trump winning the presidency” (my words). I welcome the opportunity for our community to come together in a show of solidarity with upstanding human values.

As you said: “Not precocious, not cute, just really, really racist.” I would hasten to add that it’s a level of stupid that is unacceptable among human organisms.

  • Jorale-man

I just read through Brad Lander’s statement and I agree, he’s on solid ground here. Lander’s not accusing ALL Trump supporters of these actions, but when someone writes “Go Trump,” it is accordingly fair to assign blame as he does.

  • Doug Biviano

And that proves what? Is it a pro-trump or anti-trump nut-bag who wants blood on the streets? NOBODY knows and that’s why what Lander said is so dangerous given people are already attacking others violently over the election. His remark also labels Trump Supporters as a group as hateful and anti-Semitic. If you look to 2007 swastika hate crimes in Brooklyn it was not what it seemed.

  • Jiffy Pop

    another Hoax.

  • Jiffy Pop

    Flagging you for flagging.

  • AEB

I prefer not to triple-split hairs on the matter of what, exactly, for sure, positively, the person who spray painted the message had in his or her heart, or where those sentiments fall on a spectrum of partisanship to anarchy. Thank you.

  • Jiffy Pop
  • Doug Biviano

It’s irresponsible to assign any blame without evidence especially when people are already attacking others violently over this divide, especially an elected official. It’s sad to see such a failure of leadership frankly.

  • AEB

I think one instance of public swastika painting, especially when it occurs in a child’s playground, is three too many–and I’m amazed when others don’t.

  • BHMommy

And these comments perfectly illustrate why you have so spectacularly lost every time you have run for office.

  • Doug Biviano

Mayor Ed Koch once said after a loss, “The voters have spoken…and now they must be punished.” And punished you have been.

  • StudioBrooklyn

I guess all the “stop blaming us for swastikas” Trump supporters are getting a little taste of what it’s like to be a Muslim.

  • bent

    Get bent, Biviano.

  • Jiffy Pop

The problem is, you have no idea of the person motivation.

  • BHMommy

Trump supporters are clearly ok with having a country run by a group that is hateful and anti-Semitic.

  • BHMommy

That made me LOL. Thanks. This guy is such a joke.
