  • redlola

You are in the minority. The library is shrunken and undergrounded.
The massive condo tower will cause a traffic nightmare with a marked rise in pollution.
The corrupt plan is under Investigation
We go to court. On Appeal already as state law has been violated.

  • StudioBrooklyn

Her birthday is on Friday btw

Anyone live on Columbia Heights near The Standish and care to discuss the unbelievable and never ending construction? The noise, dump trucks, the debris, it’s miserable. I’ve had many conversations with the foreman, Joe. But it’s pointless. I’m a writer, often work from home, and can barely think straight with the noise. Yes I can go to a cafe, but everyday is a little much. P.s. They also start working at 7:30am, which could be a violation. I’m not certain though.

  • PUFFS

You seemed to have conveniently forgotten that with
the construction above the library and in surrounding area
    will mean increased population.
    With a needed library trapped
in a condo with no room to
    expand to meet those needs.
Wake up little Tony, wake up
    It’s time to go home.

News Flash: Demolition has begun at Cadman Plaza Library. Heavy Duty Black
Garbage Bags filled with Debri and asbestos are on the floor of the library with dust all over the floor. Two signs are posted outside the library warning of asbestos abatement. Expect more cases of Cancer – Mesothelioma to be developed in Brooklyn Heights. There was no protective shrouding, covering
the outside of Cadman Plaza Library to protect the Brooklyn Heights Neighborhood from being polluted by toxic air.

  • Eddyde

I suppose it would be better to just have left it just as it was, with all the people inside the building exposed to asbestos.

  • Justine Swartz

In fact, both OSHA and the EPA concur that asbestos is not dangerous unless airborne.

  • Eddyde

How do you know it wasn’t getting airborne with the antiquated ventilation system and generally decaying conditions.

  • Justine Swartz

    Abestos becomes airborne during construction.

  • Mark

who cares where you will be?

  • DIBS

Just beacuse you have no friends, doesn’t mean others don’t. Jussayin.

  • Mark

the deliberate, and deliberately rude, clogging up of this week’s open thread was unfortunate and annoying

perhaps people can use some other place or method for discussing their social calendars, setting up play dates, and comparing their matchbox car collections

  • DIBS

Boy, I wonder who this was aimed at. Frankly, the ongoing rant about the library is getting a bit tiring and tedious. It’s always nice to have a mature, adult, tedious hall monitor like yourself. Do you even understand the meaning of an “Open Thread?” SMH

  • Reggie

Sue, when is this matter calendared for?

  • klowy

The Alamo, like Nitehawk, is a not the best movie going experience. Nothing like what we had at the Heights Cinema. Yes, Alamo is great about no talking, texting, etc. But the food service, which is how the make their money, kind of gets in the way of the actual movie. But maybe anything is better than the Regal.

  • Mark

Frankly you are not very high on my radar. Capisci?????

  • Eddyde

It’s clear you know nothing of the matter in abundance.

  • DIBS

You seem to be obsessed with me!

  • StudioBrooklyn

    Abundant asbestos abatement? Abhorrent.

  • DIBS

    Absolutely!

  • Justine Swartz

    Ampleness of affluence is
    abundant.

  • sparkiy

Are you imitating Trump on purpose Sue? Or do you guys just have the same temprement?

Assemblywoman Simon posted to the Boerum Hill listserv:

    Folks,

There is no asbestos removal occurring at the Bklyn Heights Library site. It is initial demolition. My office has looked into this and confirmed that DEP approval is pending the BPL’s submission for asbestos removal. Asbestos removal will not commence until approved by the DEP.

DEP went to the site this afternoon and confirmed that there is no asbestos being removed.

My office communicated this to Ms. Swartz this afternoon.

Posted on the door of Cadman Plaza Library: ASBESTOS ABATEMENT NOTIFICATION
    COMMENCEMENT: 10/24/2016
    COMPLETION DATE: 7/31/2017
LOCATION: Entire Building and Roof …

  • Maggie

It doesn’t make your case to point out a notification on the building stating that abatement work will begin 10/24 when today is 10/21… in fact it makes the previous poster’s case, that the abatement hasn’t actually started yet. Keep in mind that you don’t know what materials in the building contain asbestos, unless you have access to the hazmat survey, so it may be that you will see very little evidence of the protective measures taken.
Use evidence based arguments to support your concerns. Be logical. You will get more buy-in to your cause with that than with unsupported hysterical outbursts.

  • Brixtony

I was going to answer this with sarcasm until I actually read these ridiculous threads you’re referring to. So I have to say this ain’t Facebook and it ain’t a chat room neither.
