This coming Sunday, April 17, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. there will be a Paella Bake-Off in Red Hook, and you are invited to be one of the judges. The contestants are Kevin’s Restaurant, 277 Van Brunt Street, and the galley of the preserved coastal tanker Mary A. Whalen, docked at the south side of Pier 11 in Atlantic Basin, also in Red Hook. If you attend this event, you may spend cooking time moving between Kevin’s kitchen and Mary A. Whelan’s galley, get a tour of the ship, and enjoy tapas and sangria. The dinner, judging, and party after are at Kevin’s.
Tickets are $100 each ($106.49 with service fee), and may be purchased here. Proceeds benefit Red Hook WaterStories, which seeks to tell and preserve the history of Red Hook and its waterfront, and by extension New York’s waterfront, as well as to contribute to the community’s resiliency by helping to prepare for future floods such as that created by Sandy.
