Now, it IS true that we were concerned about possible accidents with vehicles while we distributed literature at night so we placed our people in highly reflective shirts…they were colored silver as I remember, but that was only for safety reasons. This was the only somewhat unusual clothing used during that period. But why would that be controversial?

helicopters monday night? i swear at least one helicopter circled north heights for most of monday night. noise was incessant. where is the accountability?

Good article. And it confirms what I wrote here earlier. No one was actually taking photos. (Or at least it hasn’t been documented.) So there’s no reason to be mad at “jerks who ruined it for everyone by not following the rules” (not a direct quote).

Rather, it was homeowners generally being uncomfortable with the lack of privacy knowning tour attendants could use google to determine what they paid, where they work, what their names are, when they got married, etc.

Ah well.

I was trying to spare you the embarrassment of the “incident” but you insisted on dredging it up. I also realize you have probably built a fantasy refuge for your shattered ego to hide in and believe your version of the event.
Okay folks here’s the truth as I remember it and can be verified by others: Ole Jeffery here along with ONE other person would skulk around the hood at night, distributing a newspaper called the “Spotlight” that was a overtly rightwing, neocon and subtly racist, fascist. The papers were placed mainly on the windshields of cars. He also would come and try to befriend some of the group of neighborhood teens and 20 somethings, that hung out at the Court house on Monroe and Pierrepont,”The Wall” as we called it. It was there he handed out the nazi propaganda. At first it was just stuff that listed all the great achievements of the white man blah blah then further reading revealed a racist bigoted ideology. The propaganda was published by an organization called the “New Order” (not to be confused with the reformation of Joy Division), There was a swastika in the middle of the “O” in Order. Then he would proudly show off his, claimed to be, authentic nazi arm band, no, he didn’t actually wear it, just kept it in his shirt pocket. We played along with it for a couple of weeks to see how far he would go. Then she started distributing these stickers with a swastika and a horribly offensive message. these slogans were so vile, I will not even paraphrase them here.
That was the last straw, one of our Jewish bros, upon seeing the sticker, got up and punched Jeffery square in the face, knocking off his glasses and sending him straight to the ground. He picked himself up and looked to us for help but we were all laughing in his face, He left, never to return. The incident must have shattered poor Jeffery’s ego to the core…

Also for the record:
None of the Heights brothers and sisters that hung out at the wall were ever arrested for any activities related to that scene. A couple of times The police issued summonses for open alcohol containers and once, only once, four of the crew were issued summonses for disorderly conduct. but that was it. The scene slowly faded away, as everyone moved on with their lives. Jeffery had nothing to do with its demise.

Again, if you repeat a lie enough people will begin to believe it. Gee I wonder who is always alleged to have said that? And here we have a great supposed opponent of evil, following that exact path apparently.

I think that you and O know that one of your would be friends, who was trying to join your circle, LM, approached ME with the material.
Hmmmm- set up? We sure thought so at the time. I’m sure he will deny this, after all he was seeking your friends. When he asked me and a number of others, he was given an honest and unbiased over view of that era. But we became increasingly suspicious. As far as there being no drugs at the Appeleate court scene, not even you I think can keep a straight face floating that line. We at one point had guys dealing out of cars! Then we had guys dealing out of apart- ments. The feds put a stop to that. And as far as I and my associated not clinging anything against crime in the Heights..there were like 60 felony arrests and a lot of prosecutions due to the in tell we develop ed. We weren’t trying to legally beat up kids. We just wanted the drugs and rip offs to end. And though it may gall you, we were successful.
Some people now have rap sheets? Too bad…and NOW some people who were MEMBERS of the crowd which endlessly disrupted and in many ways degraded and brought danger to this area dislike and want to assail me? Well I and my many friends take that as a badge of honor!

And, by the was, don’t compliment yourselves in any ‘stopping our activities’ in the Heights. We increased activities with every violent act against any active patriot. And your actions were a relatively small, event among everything which went on!

And look at the legacy, who remembers the names of any of the bums who hung out at the court or came from the projects with let’s say questionable intent? No one knows or cares they ever existed outside of a lingering, well deserved, hostility.

Now contrast that with how many people know who Jeff Smith is. No brag, only the truth.

So on the end the people are smarter than those who seek to deceve. The can see honesty and real value.
