Bargemusic starts the weekend early with a concert this evening (Thursday, December 17) at 8:00 featuring pianist Assaff Weisman playing works by Schumann, Liszt, and Schubert. On Friday evening, December 18, at 8:00 there’s a concert with Latin flavor; works by De Falla, Piazzolla, Fernando Otero, Villa-Lobos, Granados, and Gnattali will be performed by Jason Vieaux on guitar and Inbal Segev on cello. On Saturday evening, December 19, at 8:00 pianist Olga Vinokur will play works by Beethoven, Chopin, Medtner, and Rachmaninoff/Kreisler. On Sunday afternoon, December 20, at 4:00 works by Schumann, Webern, Brahms, Cassado, Beethoven, and Kreisler will be performed by Julian Schwarz on cello and Marika Bournaki (photo), “The Celine Dion of classical” (HuffPo) on piano. Saturday afternoon at 4:00 there will be a free, family oriented “Music in Motion” concert, co-sponsored by the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy. Doors open at 3:45; first come, first seated. This is the last weekend to see the Heights Players production of Neil Simon’s Rumors, with performances at the playhouse, 26 Willow Pace, on Friday evening, December 18 and Saturday evening, 9December 12 at 8:00, and on Sunday afternoon, December 20, at 2:00. The Players are also presenting, as a Theater for Children event in conjunction with Macy’s, Yes Virginia, The Musical, adapted from Chris Plehal’s animated special and storybook by Wesley Whatley (music) and William Schermerhorn (book and lyrics).
