Yes to everything except “terrible grocery options”…the trick, I think, is to walk down to Atlantic and take yourself to Sahadis and the Asian green grocer just west of them. TJs when absolutely necessary or to fill in staples, as long as you can do your shopping early on a weekday… I believe you can do pretty well for yourself.

  • Henry on Henry

Police were called all three times.

Is there anything that can be done about the mosquitos at some of the playgrounds / parks? Chapin park is particularly bad, it is unusable.

  • ShinyNewHandle

What’s the pooled-water situation in Chapin?

Even small containers with a bit of rainwater should be dumped out. Mosquitoes need hardly any room to breed.

They must have had some permits issued since the foundation work is almost complete. There was some activity there a few months ago, I thought it was starting back up but it was only a couple of days.

Incomplete info: dogs are also allowed on the north “field” of Cadman Park between 9 and 9

I remember when the contents of mail boxes were set on fire, especially around the St George. I still only use certain ones out of habit! :-)

I recently learned that some local car service drivers also drive for UBER.

OH NO!! those angels were lovely!

that is very sad to hear :-(

COMMUNITY ALERT: I have just received three calls that residents on Clinton Street and Monroe Place that notifications have been placed on their front doors apparenty either an architect or the developer of the new 280 Cadman Plaza with a newly formed a e mail address seeking residents to “engage” with the developer and architects of the “proposed redevelopment of the site currently occupied by the Brooklyn Heights Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library”.

A full color flyer showing the planned high rise with the
e mail: MonroePlaceResidents@gmail.com is listed on the flyer. But under that e mail is listed… http://hudsoninc.com/280-cadman/

Needless some of the calls I received were laced with ‘strong’ comments at the attempt to ” engage” after the steamrollering residents with big concerns got at the CB2 meetings and elsewhere.

So Hudson/marvel/whatever now wants to engage? Really?

Yeppers, it was only about 5 years ago I started to trust using the street mailboxes again. The newbies just don’t know how good they have it.

  • Willow Street Watch

A second wave of calls and e mails on the Clinton/!onroe place flyer have been recvd stating that the flyer is not a Hudson/Marvel product but is an actuial group of area residents. But if so, they don’t, from the flyer, appear to be opposed to the development.. only seeking whatever input they can receive…

So who is putting this out? A developer controlled group? A legitimate group on Clinton/Monroe?? The flyer asks people to get in touch with Stephen or Ingred at MonroePlaceResidents@gmail.com

UPDATE: They are working there today, putting in steel beams.

  • Willow Street Watch

There are numerous well run large studies showing the negative health effects of noise/audio environment. The wrong sound environment has been shown to be both bioactive and psychoactive on many levels.

And why do we need to put up with any of this nonsense?

    Its very simple; folks

,1) NO sound amplification in BBP that penetrates beyond the confines of
    the Regina palisades park redux…

    2) The Heights and like 9 blocks around are made a no fly zone. NO flights
of any kind unless its a real emergency. And that does NOT mean a
a gaggle of federal agencies deciding they should go on nightly fishing
    expeditions looking for….whatever they please…..

Always worth the walk from the North Heights!

  • Anonymouse

I grew up in Brooklyn (different part) and am almost 40. I never once saw a burning mailbox and always “trusted” mailboxes. Just saying’ :)

  • Anonymouse

In my experience, if you call 311 about this, they’ll take down the whole tree.

I’m 52 and I assure you mailboxes were a favorite target of vandals. Not just fire (usually set off by “mailing” lit fireworks) but trash, dog pooh, water balloons, a large Coke to go…. Basically anything that could fit in the chute would likely be deposited.

  • Anonymouse

I do remember “stuff” in mailboxes that wasn’t mail. Just not fire.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlsiLOnWCoI Arch Stanton

I guess the Heights had a more sophisticated breed of vandals.

  • Andrew Porter

I’ve been here since 1968. The vandalism back in the bad old days of the 70s and 80s consisted of thefts of metal, such as two iron statues stolen from a Cranberry Street stoop, or the gorgeous bronze balustrades from “the Shenley” on Hicks Street, torn out of their stoop and *never* replaced; you can see where they used to be. There were also bronze stanchions around the central lawn at the park on Cadman Plaza, which were all sawed off and also never replaced.

The current vandalism is, I believe, caused by students at the St. George dorms, as well as by late night visitors coming into BH from Brooklyn Bridge Park.

There used to be far more window bars in BH. Certainly, there are almost no break-ins from fire escapes like there used to be. There are also many security cameras now, technology that didn’t exist then.

  • Andrew Porter

Did anyone report this to the 84th Precinct—phone 718-875-6811—or 311, or was it just written up on social media?

  • Andrew Porter

I don’t have a smart phone, so will never use this. Not that I ever use taxis anyway. However, the city can and does regulate who can use the streets. Otherwise, what’s the point of having traffic rules, anyway?

  • Andrew Porter

    Me too, alas.

I think of Rockabilly as Redneck Rap.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlsiLOnWCoI Arch Stanton

It’s no joke, Square Whites are the most ruthless gang in the world.

  • Willow Street Watch

Its simple…we place a series of speakers so that anyone attempting to visit the park has to go through several “sound neuro modification” zones…the first will be super rockabilly..the second two blocks of surf music then two blocks of hardcore.AND if there is a peep of complaints we’ll put on some screwdriver!!!

I have a feeling the survivors will be very well behaved thereafter….

  • ShinyNewHandle

I’m thinking of getting a bike to leave outdoors. May I have the anchor?

Mr. Guterman’s “Save the View” group has filed 50+ new documents in support of their upcoming appeal.

His group should be careful what it wishes for. If it gets an injunction and ultimately loses they think they can get the judge to cap the cost to BBP at $10,000.

BBP, on the other hand, says an injunction will cost at least $3,550/day so Mr. Guterman’s group could have a pretty hefty tab if the lose down the road.

I hope judge Knipel dismisses Mr. Guterman’s motion to reargue the case.

The e-filed documents for the case are at this NYS link:
