NYC DOT Begins Work on BQE Cantilever This Monday

Extensive surface repairs to the Brooklyn Queens Expressway cantilever deck below the Brooklyn Heights promenade will commence on Monday, August 4.

The BHA website reports that the New York City Department of Transportation will begin milling and paving of the full surface of the eastbound (towards Queens) BQE from Atlantic Ave to Cadman Plaza West.

BQE lane closures will be in effect Monday through Friday 10 PM -5 AM. The milling and paving work will last approximately 2 weeks. At least one lane will be open to traffic at all times.

Not since 2002 has there been a complete milling and repaving of the upper BQE roadway, and the BHA has been ‘on the case’ for sometime. It is our expectation that the work will help to mitigate the extreme vibrations the uneven deck surface causes in homes along the BQE.

The BHA expressed gratitude to the DOT for scheduling a project much needed by local residents, and to Councilman Steve Levin for his help in closing the deal.

AHA… this is why I was kept awake all night last night until 5am. Gazillions of semis, trucks and cars with loud horns obviously stuck in the ‘honk’ position, were bumper-to-bumper on Hicks Street. Why can they not be diverted to Court?
