Dog Owners Beware Stray Voltage On Middagh Overpass

We have credible reports from several sources there’s again stray sidewalk voltage on Middagh Street, near Columbia Heights. Of particular concern because it’s one path dog walkers take to get the Hillside Dog Park, right around the corner. Con Edison has been alerted.

We’ve had stray sidewalk voltage at this location in previous years. Best to avoid that patch of Middagh until the salty slushy streets are gone, which can act as a conductor of stray electrical voltage in the sidewalk. It can be quite serious and deadly to both dogs and humans.

    My dog always avoided walking over metal grills on the floor and I can now appreciate why. I thought he was just afraid of falling through the little holes.

    Looks like Sanitation dumped a truckload of salt and sand in the dead end space at that end of Middagh…..useless!

    It is actually a 911 emergency, I reported a similar shock hazard on Montague St a few weeks ago; The 311 operator immediately switched me to 911, the fire department operator, the firemen showed up in minutes and cut the power. It is a very serious condition, the city takes these reports seriously.

    They probably dumped it there for storage, so they could replenish salt spreaders locally. Not useless.

    That might have been a good idea, but, alas, it is totally spread out over the entire street of the little block from Willow St to the Middagh walkway.

    The cops called me shortly after, and they were on scene. Apparently Con Ed was on the way. I had somewhere to go, and couldn’t check it out, but I suggested they tape area off.
