84th Precinct Police Blotter – 10/17/13

What’s happening in the 84? I’ll tell you what’s happening in the 84. It’s this week’s blotter.

Last Wednesday, a 33-year-old parked his 2010 black Toyota Corolla on Warren St., but it was gone by 8 p.m. NY lic# GFW5238.

Last Thursday evening, a man walked into a Radio Shack, asked to see two iPhones, then walked out with them.

A few hours earlier, two teens were menaced by thugs near Cadman Plaza East. The first incident took place at 3 p.m., where a 14-year-old fled after he was jumped by three men. The second happened at 4:30 about a block away, where a 16-year-old had been taking pictures until three men snatched the teen’s camera and ran east on Tillary Street.

On October 7th, a thief or thieves broke into a Dean Street apartment through the glass doors in the backyard and made off with approximately $1,000 in rings and necklaces.

Later that day, a woman left her bag with her baby in a stroller while she shopped at Conway’s. The baby proved a poor choice for security guard though, as someone stole $400 from Mom’s wallet. Unless it was an inside job ….

Finally, also on October 7th, a man walked into Macy’s with a duffel bag and walked out with $1,320 worth of Polo Ralph Lauren sweaters. And that’s this week’s blotter.

I had my first experience with a towed car. My nephew and his wife drove up from Florida to visit with their daughter at Columbia University and stopped by to visit with me on their way back to Florida. Being unfamiliar with our confusing parking signs, they parked in a fire zone. When they told me where they had parked, we quickly ran to the spot only to find the car gone–no more than 10 minutes had elapsed. So, their one-day visit was spent tracking the car down and then taking a cab to the police lot on Sands Street [?] to retrieve it. I knew the traffic cops in Brooklyn Heights were tough, but this was rough!!!

What’s so confusing about a sign that says “No Standing Fire Zone”?

Unfortunately, we’re not all as smart as you, Archie.

I am constantly telling people who think to themselves, “Oh, look! Empty parking space!” that They Can’t Park There…

    Sad but true.
