Update: We now have word that the state Department of Health has approved SUNY’s application to close LICH. See the official letter here.
According to Mary Frost’s Eagle story, doctors at Long Island College Hospital say they have been ordered by SUNY Downstate to transfer all patients out of LICH today in preparation for closing the hospital Sunday. SUNY officials say this isn’t true, but have re-submitted a plan to close LICH to the state Department of Health. Protesters, including elected officials, gathered again at LICH today to protest SUNY’s actions. Public Advocate and mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio tweeted that he has gone to court seeking a new temporary restraining order barring SUNY from closing LICH. An earlier TRO to that effect has been appealed by SUNY, which claims it is not bound by it pending decision on the appeal.
@CobbleHillAssoc health dept sent me letter dated today. Says all patients gone on or before 7-28. Sad.
