LICH Rally Monday (7/8) at Gov’s NYC Office

In the continuing efforts to keep Long Island College Hospital open, there will be a rally today (7/8/13) from 4-6 outside Governor Cuomo’s Manhattan office. According to the Brooklyn Heights Association, the rally has been organized by LICH doctors, nurses, and members of the Local 1199/United Healthcare Workers. The address is 633 Third Avenue, between 40th and 41st Sts, and buses will leave at 2:45 from LICH’s Hicks St entrance.

And on Wednesday, supporters aim to deliver a petition to Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher to obey a previous court order and keep the hospital open. That rally will take place at 10am at 33 West 42nd St between 5th and 6th Aves. Buses will leave from the same location at 8:15 am.

You can reserve a seat on the bus for either rally by emailing gabe.kristal@nysna.org.

I was there. I guess about 200 people were there. Bill DeBlasio spoke to the crowd in favor of saving LICH, and so did Steve Levin. I didn’t see Cuomo. He was probably upstairs counting his real estate “contributions”. But he should have heard the angry crowd in the street.
