Yassky Promotes Bikes, Biodiesel

City Councilmember David Yassky is sponsoring legislation that he says will assist New Yorkers in reducing their carbon footprints. His Bikes in Buildings Bill would require employers to allow their employees to bring bikes to their workplaces. You can sign a petition supporting this bill at his website here.

He is also sponsoring a bill to phase in a requirement that all heating oil sold in the City contain a blend of twenty per cent biodiesel. Most existing furnaces can’t burn pure biodiesel but, according to Yassky, they can handle the blend his bill would require. His office has issued a flyer giving information concerning the use of biodiesel for home heating, including links to lists of suppliers.
