Blessing of the Animals at Grace Church

Today was the Feast of St. Francis, and Grace Church celebrated with a blessing of the animals at the 5:00 p.m. service. Here the Rector, the Rev. Stephen Muncie, administers a blessing–holy water delivered via a dogwood sprig–to Wellington, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, held by proud owner Stacey Mankoff. More photos and text after the jump.

Calico kitty Samantha receives her blessing impassively, while “big sister” looks on appreciatively.

Annabelle, a French bulldog, seems to find the blessing blissful.

The Holbrookes’ Hicks Street hens were on hand, but this year no eggs were laid.

Apart from some baby chicks that accompanied the Holbrooke hens, the smallest creature blessed was Aloysius Mahoney, a.k.a. Little Bird.
