It Happend This Week – Heights Democrats for the More “Trustable” McCain

Thought we’d bring up this item from the New York Observer about a “Democrats for McCain” fundraiser in Brooklyn Heights earlier this week. That story and the amazing NY1 video after the jump:

New York Observer: A Democrat for McCain: An interesting tidbit about the host of tonight’s Brooklyn Heights fund-raiser, “Democrats for John McCain.” It’s being put on by Roberta Weisbrod, a Democrat, who is married to a federal Judge David Trager, a Republican. As Gatemouth noted earlier, Trager was one of the few Republicans Bill Clinton appointed to the federal bench. Trager has seen a number of notable cases, including the case against Lemrick Nelson, who was convicted of violating the civil rights of a Hasidic student who was killed during the Crown Heights riots in 1991. He later imposed the maximum sentence. More recently, in 2006,  Trager threw out a suit filed by a Syrian-born Canadian who said he was detained without by the U.S. government due process at J.F.K. Airport and then shipped to Syria, where he was tortured.

And here’s the fantastic NY1 report, including the declaration that the GOP candidate is the more “trustable” one (Real Player required):

Democrats for McCain, eh? Oxymoronic, in my opinion.

And if your argument is that there’s really no diff between Dems and Repubs–well, then, note Democratic.

    Better for one’s karma.

“Democrats for McCain” fundraiser, maybe they should rename it “Democrats for the guy that looks like us” fundraiser.

  • CJP

Whatever. Obama will so win. Let them give to McCain.

  • David on Middagh

Democrats for Obama should not be complacent. As an aged Republican from Arizona, McCain hits so many conservative stereotypes it’s not funny. Yet some Democrats would rather vote for him than the internationally-heritaged black guy.

  • Steve

Gallup has them neck and neck but the rest of the polls have Obama leading from 3 to 8 points. That’s actually not very good for Obama because there’s the closet racism dynamic this year where people may not vote the way they say they’re going to vote to an interviewer.

McCain is a bumbler though and has thus far gotten a pass from the MSM for his gaffes and flip-flops so it will be interesting to see what happens when the debates begin.

Democrats for McCain? Really? Honestly and truly? Give me a break.

Democrats for Keeping the Capital Gains Tax as Low as Possible.

I may disagree with them, but I think it’s great that people can be open-minded and not vote purely based on party. “Democrats for McCain” and “Republicans for Obama” shows our system works.

Trager sounds like a de-facto Clintonite, and they’re still reeling from Obama’s ability to coopt her platform and put a better spin on it, an ability which I guess, makes him un-“trustable”. IMHO, he’s an un-“stable” position.
