Voice: Loon Sabotaging Brooklyn Bridge Bike Path

The Village Voice published a report today claiming that someone is harassing bicyclists by sprinkling staples along the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge bikepaths.  The staples stick to the tires and eventually puncture them.  The problem has been going on for “a few weeks” the paper says.

Village Voice: Runnin’ Scared Blog: “It might be a pedestrian that doesn’t like cyclists,” says Brooklyn Heights Bike Shop manager Tony Scarselli. “The Manhattan Bridge has a pedestrian and a bike side. The bikers that came to me with flats, many of them were riding on the pedestrian side.”

Kind of odd that in this day when there’s cellphone photos of gum blotches on the sidewalk and everything else, none have been posted/linked of these staples. Could someone who’s seen these staples post a picture to flickr/picasa/etc?

I DID IT!!! Some of you out there (bikers especially) may think I’m a social midget for laying staples all about the floor. But, I was making a political statement. The last I’ve checked, revolution and activism is what we covet most in this “democracy”. My message goes beyond the context of the Brooklyn Bridge Bike/Ped path. I did this to further aggravate the simple minds of those that need big yellow lines and pictures to tell us where to walk and ride our bikes. Couldn’t we just figure it out by ourselves? Is this a fascist state? Can we not all just watch out for one another, in the most efficient time saving New York tradition? I was born and raised in New York. New Yorkers have bigger issues to confront besides micromanaging where you freakin decide to move your body across the pavement. Whether you want to side with the bikers or peds, if you cannot see the complete stupidity of this situation to begin with, then your mother probably breast fed you for too long. Sorry for being so crude, but its true. Oh, and btw I didn’t do it. But, it got you reading.

OK BadseedBH. We’ll let cars ride on the sidewalk and let pedestrians walk on the BQE and we’ll let bike riders pedal into stores because: who needs micromanaging? Your way of behavior sounds more like anarchy and you sound like a NUT!

HDEB, your point is a good one. but your answer also betrays a life-style that makes you a good candidate for a stroke. Slow down, seriously. Bicycling should be a healthy means of transportation, but not at the risk of injury to you or anyone else.

Curmudgeon. You really are a little bit anal in; in general. I don’t see how you can compare people walking on highways and riding bikes around in stores to a situation that is NOT NEARLY AS DANGEROUS. Highways aren’t for people. But there is NO reason why people can’t cooperate within a space that IS DESIGNED TO ACCOmMODATE BOTH. Do you really think that we as human beings can’t seem to cooperate. YOU CHOOSE ANARCHY BECAUSE IN YOUR MIND IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR US TO COOPERATE WITH ONE ANOTHER. Twit.
