Brooklyn Bridge Anchorages to be Sandblasted Starting Tomorrow

The anchorages on the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge are to be sandblasted to remove lead paint. The work is slated to begin tomorrow, and will not affect existing traffic patterns, according the the Community Outreach for the Brooklyn Bridge Rehabilitation.

This from the construction bulletin:

All painting work is being conducted in accordance to the US Environmental Protection Act and NYS Department of Environmental Conservation requirements. Dust collection, vacuum and recycling units are being employed to minimize environmental air quality risks, and there is continuous air monitoring during operations. Noise generated by these units conforms to the NYC Noise Code standards adopted in 2007. Visit the website of the Department of Environmental Protection for more information.

Far more information, or to be added to the notification list for closures or other traffic changes, please contact Sabrina Lau, the Brooklyn Bridge Community Liaison, at 347-647-0876 or brooklynbridgeoutreach@gmail.com

Anyone have an idea as to the time this will take place? Overnight or during the day?

The construction bulletin doesn’t specify, but give the nature of the work and the fact that traffic isn’t affected, I’m pretty sure it will be during daytime.

I was in Dumbo yesterday afternoon and they had those vacuums running under the Brooklyn tower.

It sure was noisy, but not too offensive.

Anyone know if they are installing new LED cable lights like the shnazzy ones installed on the GWB last summer?

I miss going in the Anchorage….such an interesting cavernous deep dark space…

I wonder if they will ever be opened up again for art events, always loved those.
