Siggy’s in Brooklyn Heights Closed Until 2/22

Siggy’s Good Food at 76 Henry Street will be closed until February 22. A sign in the restaurant’s window blames the closing on “unexpected reasons.”

The restaurant’s health inspection report does not indicate any major issues that would cause a shut down.

No great loss. Yet another mediocre Heights restaurant.

^ What, you’re back? Were you missing? If you were, and we didn’t notice, I apologize, but… you see… there are many mediocre commenters, and… well, you understand.

  • Jorale-man

On a similar note, the sushi take-out restaurant on Joralemon near Clinton was recently closed by the Dept. of Health. Nothing suggests when it will re-open any time soon.

I think the point is to make sure by support that businesses remain open in BH–and to hope that vacant store spaces get tenants soon.

The BH retail real-estate population is very limited and (thus) expensive–one reason we don’t enjoy the restaurant diversity and quality of, say, Cobble Hill. So supporting non-corporate enterprise is important.

@David: Up late night drinking again and typing with one hand?

  • Heightsman

    No great loss. Fail.

  • Monty

I love this place and will miss it dearly. We eat there or get delivery at least once a week.

I’m a big fan of Siggy’s, we eat there more than any other restaurant in the neighborhood. Great turkey burger and great steak sandwich, delicious breakfasts and juice concoctions keep me coming back.

  • ABK

Siggy’s is the BEST! Hands down the best breakfast burrito around.
I will be pissed if they do not re-open.

  • Zia

    Siggy’s food is amazing——–and healthy!

  • E

Probably a labor issue. Siggy was cooking the books and running a sweatshop in there.

  • Monty

@E, do you have even an anecdote to back up that accusation?

  • BG

I believe their “Aliens Eat Free” policy bit them on the ass.

  • E

    @Monty

Yes. I know first-hand she was not paying her employees properly.

    Siggy’s is a dump. I ate there once o
and got really bad food poison. I think this place is very dirty !

  • Matthew Parker

Ate there once and never again. And all around lackluster experience. I hope something better replaces it if they are going out.

When friends visit who require a vegan meal, I am very grateful for Siggy’s (as well as Tutt Café). I can have scrambled eggs while my visitor takes scrambled tofu. The organic OJ is wonderful.

P.S. I take back my insinuation that Publius is a mediocre commenter. He can provoke a response, after all. He is, in fact, the master baiter.

Oh, dear. That sounds bad. But I’ll let it stand.

I just saw a sign on the window… something about a dispute over an illegal sidewalk cafe? Hmm.

  • dcbklyn

Siggy fired her entire kitchen staff and one waitress that I know of.
She went on vacation, then reopened with a whole new staff..
    .
I will never eat there again. For all her blah blah blah signs about demoracy and liberal ways her actions seem …well… a little on the fascist side.

    Bon Appetit!

Reading the above I always wonder how those moralizers are in their own professional and personal life. Do they life up to their own standards they set for others? Are you upset because she fired your favorite waitress who allowed you to look down into her blouse? She probably had her reasons for the firing. Its her business, all YOU need to be concerned about is the food she serves. Maybe the kitchen staff was caught spitting into your food.

  • dcbklyn

The food aint all that !

  • Y

Why do you care then that much about that place? U dont like the food, dont like the dogs doing #1 and #2 in front of you while you are eating there, yet u gotta complain about the place. I guess you are one of the disgruntled fired employees who got caught spitting in the food? Or worse you are the one to be blamed for the bad food?

My dear sir or madam I never have worked at Siggys…however i was a customer who caught the rath of Siggy and her disdain for credit cards. Or a time when the Eastern District Court ordered a large take out order…Siggy’s forgot some of the items and Siggy said she was to busy to bring the items to them all though they were charged.
    Straight up….bad business practices
