In Case You Haven’t Looked Out Your Window

From Notify NYC:

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for New York City from 10:00 AM this morning to 6:00 AM tomorrow. The current forecast calls for 4-8 inches of snow with wind gusts up to 30 MPH. Caution should be exercised while traveling. For more information visit: http://www.weather.gov/nyc

Update: No surprise here: alternate side parking regulations and parking meter requirements are suspended “until further notice”.

Hey Homer, I haven’t made a film about snow in over a week. Shucks, should I go out there and see what is going on? Just kidding, even I am tired of the snow and want no part of it.

    Mother Nature, I give up.

NYC finally came to grips with a month of snow cover:

Alternate Side Parking Rules Suspended Until Further Notice
    Wednesday, January 26, 2011

Alternate side parking (street cleaning) rules will be suspended citywide until further notice for snow removal.

  • Hello Brooklyn

They couldn’t have pulled the trigger on that before 8am today when everbody had to move in the heights (and it was already snowing)? ASP Suspension FAIL.

  • Heightsman

Seriously, read a weather report and pull the trigger. I watched as friends cars were being towed this morning only to be suspended an hour later.

  • cat

Agree, ridiculous that they waited until after 10 am to suspend parking regulations–after we had moved the car. Did they not think that could be a slight problem for many people. Fortunately I was able to get back out there around 2:30 and move it back.

Just looked out my window. Can’t see a damned thing, there are all these white things falling from the sky that are blocking my view. Am I missing something?

  • Winstion Smith

Yeah the city definitely dropped the f’ing ball with the alternate thing today and I’m really pissed… I missed stay’n over at my girlfriends last night, cause I had to move the car this morning… and when I did, it was so slippery out I almost wrecked it… drove around for an hour looking for a spot, then 10 minutes a after I parked I get a text from the city announcing the suspension of regulations… man if I worked for the Post Office there would be real trouble… Me thinks the DOT control room is full of drunk chimpanzees randomly pressing buttons…

  • nabeguy

Winston, they share that control room with the DOS. Funny that the DOE has a so-called “rubber room”. Most of the other city agencies act like it’s their home office.

Love the thunder-snow. Quite a winter!

  • Andrew Porter

They kept raising the amount of snow due, now maybe a foot. Coming down like a son-of-a-gun outside my window, the snow sticking to the side of the St. George Tower in an interesting way. Maybe I shd go to bed…

  • David on Middagh

Good morning, all. The oak branches outside are supporting six inches of snow.

A limo driver is parked in the middle of Middagh, at Hicks. I hope he isn’t stuck…

  • aaa

Anyone know the total snow fall? Totally didn’t expect schools to be closed.

  • Mickey

19.3 inches in Central Park. Not sure what that translates into for the Heights. I’m not an engineer, but I’m guessing it was higher than the 4 to 8 inches they were predictiing this time yesterday!

  • Andrew Porter

Just one more inch and we set the record for all-time snowiest January ever! Kind of like the folks in New Orleans bragging about the highest watermark ever for Katrina, though…

  • @columbiaplace

poor tree in front of iris cafe. Looks like it’s about to succumb to the weight of the snow.
