“No Pants” Subway Riders Gather at Court Street Station

Alas, your correspondent wasn’t there with camera, but a neighbor reports that participants in Improv Everywhere’s 2011 No Pants Subway Ride were assembled on the Court Street subway station platform at about 5:00 p.m.

Anybody get any pix?

Update: Gothamist has pix. Warning: be prepared for lots of cellulite.

Well, you know, I was riding uptown on the A around 5:00, got off at 42nd, and saw–or thought I saw–a young female person who wores underwear only below the waist (except for shoes).

So it seems that I DID see what I thought I saw. Of course, my initial response, after determining as best I could that she wasn’t in mental extremis, was, Oh, this is some sort of young-person fashion statement.

Everyone else was doing their best not to stare–and, indeed, we all went about our business.

Why would they pick January for this?

  • Eddy de Lectron

    Why do it at all?

  • nabeguy

    Willow, it’s increases the irony…and shrinkage…factor.

  • Bill

    How 2004.

    yawn

I was on a 4 or 5 train coming back to Borough Hall around 4:30 and there were at least 20 people on the train not wearing pants. They all got off at Union Square, which seemed to be a big gathering point.

Whatever else this event proves it is that pants were invented for a reason. My eyes! My eyes!

  • eg

what was the purpose of it all?

  • cat

    @Clintonstrez “My eyes! My eyes!”

    LOL!

  • George Earl

How about some guy doing the same thing? Might get even more attention.

  • nabeguy

Isn’t this the same station with the homeless people that everyone complains about? I can only imagine what might have happened if these two camps had crossed paths.

    Bill: Ditto

Big deal! I do “no underwear” subway rides everyday, however on “no pants subway ride” day, I just thought it would be best for all if I just took car service instead. Unlike peanut butter and jelly, combining these two activities may not be appreciated so much by the populace at large (or small, if shrinkage is taken into account.)

  • nabeguy

Considering your post name is ED, that last line takes on a whole new meaning.

You know, I have to say that looking at the pix, it becomes clear that the guys really chickened-out.

    I mean, BOXERS?! They’re not underwear–they’re SHORTS!

OK, so that’s what these guys wear habitually, which is REALLY pathetic.

Is that what our foreparents fought and died for–so that guys could wear BOXERS?

    BOXERS?!

    Jeeze!

  • Billy Reno

yawn. Lemme know when there are G-strings on the G train.

  • nabeguy

Great idea Billy. Nothong wrong with that!
