nice
thanks
I like PS8 and the handful of kids I know who attend. Too bad it does not go to 8th grade.
The building could look so much nicer without the jail-like grids on the windows and a new cornice. It is a handsome 1910 building really. A little greenery out front would be nice too and could provide little shade for the little ones when they are playing in the courtyard.
Thanks for the video. We encourage any alumni in the community to become involved with the school. Please contact me at: lauramardiks@hotmail.com if you or your children attended PS8 or if you know someone who did.
Laura, so nice to see your name associated with my video. Laura for those not involved with PS8, volunteers and chairs numerous committees for PS8 and is a shining example of what has made this school a success story. Bravo Laura, Brooklyn Heights is very fortunate to have you as a resident.
Thank you Karl!
A very nice video, but I wish you’d mentioned Seth Phillips. He more than Joel Klein deserves praise for turning the school around and making it the neighborhood asset that it is.
PS 8 parent,
Look at the attached video made recently at the 57 second marker. I lavished well deserved praise on Seth Phillips and made him a prominent feature of my film. For good reason. I agree, he has done some excellent work. Just didn’t want this film to get redundant with the attached.

Seth Phillips is NOT responsible for the PS8 turn around he is a part of the DOE works for and at the direction of Klein and Bloomberg. PS8 has come a ways but at PS8 there are problems. Nothing is perfect. Every school has problems, every organization has problems. Phillips is a link in a chain named the DOE, Chain, Chain, Chain, Chain of ____ls.
Ben,
I would disagree. True, PS 8 isn’t perfect, but Seth is a tremendous educator, and he puts the children of PS 8 first. The community is very fortunate to have him at the helm of this school. As for the DOE/Klein/Bloomberg, they seem to be doing everything they can to destroy public education in New York City.
