Mr. Junkersfeld’s Observations on a Slow News Weekend

Mr. J. checks out construction near the Pier 1 entry, goes to Coney Island to taste pizza, views progress on a storefront at Hicks and Middagh, and returns to Pier 1 to find what may be the landing spot of a small, rectangular UFO, which no doubt picked a place where it wouldn’t be noticed amid all the helicopters.

Actually, the store depicted now has a sign in the window that indicates the business is Monifiki Properties….

  • Karl Junkersfeld

Yes, I was told it was going to be a real estate finance company as opposed to a real estate firm. I suppose their responsibilities will entail collecting rent, sending out invoices and things like that. What I guess this means is that they will have desks and partitions in the similar to the space across the street. Not bad though I’d prefer a nice coffee spot with sticky buns. Not complaining though. lol

Still love that line by my2cents, “leave the kvetching to the professionals.”. I’m extra careful not to complain about things that don’t merit it.

Well, whatever the business’ business, they’ve planted some lovely flowers in the store window boxes. A step in the right direction….

(How that for the glass half-full?)

  • Karl Junkersfeld

That is good news about the flowers. I googled the name Monifiki Properties and came up empty. Sound Hawaiian to me.

Now if we can get some flowers in the window sill at 20 Middagh and the police station at Poplar, then I will be living in Nirvana, with or without a coffee shop with sticky buns.

Sorry, it Manifooki Properties. And here’s all I came up with:

    Not much!

Karl, it would be Monitikki if it was Hawaiian. I’m glad the space is finally occupied, although the only thing I can imagine drier than a realtor is a realty management firm. But it will employ people, so there’s that plus.

  • WillowtownCop

Meth clinics and brothels also employ people- it doesn’t mean you want them in your neighborhood.

  • David on Middagh

They could see coffee and candy bars as a sideline. You can’t tell me those employees will be busy every minute of every day!

I enjoyed the video, as always. The Apple Store can’t be far behind now given the NYT piece last week about how Barney’s is moving to Atlantic Avenue. The question is, where? The Jennifer Convertibles space seems like a good bet, but I also wonder if they’d want to be closer to Cobble Hill and Downtown. Should be interesting.

“Manifooki” is an odd and disturbing name. The “fook” part has an obvious near homonym (an exact one in the North of England), and “mani” could be read as “many”, so: [we] “fook” many? I’d be leery of this company, even though (perhaps even more because) they quote Thoreau on their website. Might their company’s motto be, “To Serve Man”?

Now, what episode of “The Twilight Zone” was that, Claude? 1,234,543,678?
