Cops Still Seeking Pierrepont St. Attacker

Police are asking the public’s assistance in locating the suspect sought in connection with the September 3rd attack on a 67-year-old Pierrepont St. resident.

Tommy Hairston, 32, of 116 George St., allegedly assaulted the victim as he got out of his car in front of 61 Pierrepont St, striking him with a 9mm pistol.  Hairston fled in his own car, which was located later that night in East New York.  Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (5477) or through NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM.

They’ve got his his name, his address and his car. What’s the trick in apprehending this hairball?

One would assume that any crook wily enough to possess a 9mm pistol has probably given some thought to hitting the road when the heat is on. Dude is probably visiting an old girlfriend in the U.S. Virgin Islands right about now, or some other out-of-the-way spot. However, most meatballs like this are undone by stupid stuff, like assuming their e-mail accounts and mobile phones are secure. Enjoy it while it lasts, sucker. NYPD’s coming for you!

How did this blog become so law-and-order lately? I’m all for a community that watches after its streets - and this sounds like an awful crime - but a little perspective here, please.

“hairball” that makes me think of ‘Hill Street Blues’

Bingo lifer. I guess I confused the Heights with the Hill. Now if we could only get Belker on this guy’s ass, he’d be caught…or worse.

what perspective? The guy pistol whipped someone, should we just say “poor baby don’t do that gain” and wave bye bye?

Perspective meaning, don’t sound like a paranoid vigilante. Crime has been steadily declining in the Heights for years. It’s one of the safest hoods in the city. Posting giant mug shots and constant items about crime creates the illusion that there’s a bigger problem than there really is.

    And it hurts property values.

You guys should be stand up comics! This skell needs to be caught and you’re upset about property values. Jerks.

I report the news, I don’t create it. Illusions are in the eye of the beholder, anyway.

Jorale-man, even Eden had Cain and Abel. It’s important that information like this, unseemly as it is, be disseminated so that we can watch out for each other. That’s not being a vigilante, that’s being a neighbor.

I think J-man was counseling against

    1) Alarmism

    2) A violent retributive urge.

One isn’t condoning crime if one wants to put the breaks on the very “acting out” that the criminal impulse embodies.

I still just cant get over the fact that people on the “guder” board are so concerned about breaking this kids hands and making numerous calls to get the graff cleaned up, but on here its like “dont get everyone so up in arms about a 67 year old woman who got pistol whipped with a frikkin gun”. Talk about losing perspective.
Like Nabe guy said, they have this guys name, how hard can it be to track him down? or have they lost man power while the cops are walking around counting grafitti tags to add to the Guders community service hours?

lifer, the answer may be that with the assualt, only one person was victimized. With the graffitti, the whole neighborhood feels like it was, hence the visceral response. Certainly a disproportionate reaction given one crime involved a gun and the other a marker, but there you have it.
Oh, and a correction to my previous post. Eden did NOT have Cain and Abel…but it certainly had its share of snakes.

On the topic of crime, did anyone else happen to notice the black Infinity on Cranberry this morning that was missing all 4 rims. Not a physical assault to be certain, but the frustration this must cause for the owner is no doubt overwhelming. And mind you, this would be the 2nd time he’s had to replace them as they’ve been stolen once before.
