Open Thread: Brooklyn Heights Best Coffee Redux

prettyfunnyIt’s been almost two years since we first posed the question, “who makes the best cuppa joe in Brooklyn Heights?”

Since then some players have closed, while others have branched out.

So, who’s java reigns supreme? Comment below!

I used to eat Hagen-Daaz coffee ice cream, in the heady days when I could eat ice cream. *Sigh*… I buy my tea at Sahadi’s.

Cranberries is one of the best all around blends I have tasted. It is strong but not bitter like Starbucks. You cannot really compare the more espresso blends served at Tazza. They are different. Cranberries is the best “every day” coffee.

  • John

Tazza is the best of the worse !

    bornhere:

I second your Cafe du Monde recommendation. Especially with some sweetened condensed milk.

  • susan

Lassen and hennigs first. But I mostly brew at home and you can’t beat trader joes organic fair trade beans you can grind at the store.

  • Lillian Ann Slugocki

TAZZA is by far the best. The latte is delicious. The iced cafe mocha is— forget it. I’m going out for one right now.

Hey, bornhere, let me know the next time you want some Yuban…I’m 5″11″ and pretty sure I can reach that shelf.

  • vspingola

Hans Bodega on Clark, right across the street from Tazza has the best coffee in the Heights. And they are much nicer than the the crew across the street from them too.

I’m glad that my taste buds are not all that refined. Practically any cup of coffee is appreciated when I am dragging my ass. My only regret is that I did not start drinking coffee sooner. If I had been drinking coffee in law school, I am sure I would’ve done better!

tazza’s is lame. besides…who outlaws laptops between 11-4 during the week. those idiots love to be empty.

  • The Kid

Tazza’s – Great cappuccinos, avg. regular coffee, Gabriel Byrne. Nice staff. Don’t know of any laptops outlawed there. I like working there more than Starbucks.
CT Muffin – Powerful coffee when you need it in the AM. Jesus in afternoon is a sweetie.
Han’s – When you need it fast.
Starbucks – Dependable and staff is largely nice. Latte good w/turkey bacon sandwich for breakfast.

Just tried my first Stumptown cup this afternoon at the Brooklyn Flea, and I’m impressed. Believe the hype. I had an iced and my S.O. had it hot. Impressed enough that I took home some beans.

  • Good Neighbor

I’m obsessed with finding the perfect cup of coffee in the area. For my taste, Tazza delivers the best espresso drinks and I’m glad they are on the scene. However, they are not perfect. I must say that the arrival of Stumptown is raising the bar on excellence in the surrounding hoods. Baked in Red Hook (as well as Cafe Pedlar and Prime Meats) use Stumptown beans and, by far, share their passion for coffee like no other I’ve tried here.

Plymouth Cafe at the corner of Pineapple St and Henry. But, I usually brew at home Key food beans ground in the store 3/4 Hazelnut and 1/4 Vanilla Nut. best coffee around. I agree Tazza is bad coffee and Starbucks too bitter. Cranberry’s is not bad.

  • Sticky

    Cranberries.

  • Love the Heights

On my way to work this morning, I saw that the new Brooklyn Heights Wine Bar was open and serving coffee. As they are co-owned by Cranberries, I imagine they will serve their coffee (of which I am not a fan), but they have a big espresso machine and it’s such a pleasant space.

What a nice addition to the nabe! On Friday night, they were packed. I can’t wait to go.

The Wine Bar serves Stumptown coffee, and it is excellent.

  • In The Heights

    Great to hear!

I thank all for the time & effort in replying to the coffee quiz.
Maybe we should have a taste off and have it tied in to a benefit
for the nabe, which would be the real winner. I am sure many of
the mentioned places are all reputable ones that are very customer
    orientated and serve quality products.

It’s so nice to see all the interest created by a cup of Java.
I am sure that everyones comment is valid since we all have
different palates, and I am certain each place mentioned try their
best to please their clientele. Maybe we should make it a little more
fun by having a taste off and have it benefit our wonderful neighborhood.
Maybe one of our bloggers can come up with a good idea where the benefit
could go to some of our older residents or to a kids playground.

I’m sorry but I think Cafe Pedlar is just awful. And yes, I do know what good coffee is supposed to taste like, but my experiences there have been bad so far. Also the four tiny tables in the large space makes no sense at all — they need more seating desperately.

    And their logo sucks.
