    Jenn,

Try Bargemusic. Gorgeous and more reasonable than you’d think, altho I think you may have to be flexible about dates if you want a nighttime affair.

EAB: sell: craigslist or you could rack up some good karma and donate them to Housing Works on Montague, profits benefit AIDS charities.

2nd Superfine for wedding option. Plymouth Church is lovely, there are many lovely churches in the area.

Question: did the Bossert hotel ever sell? I have dreams that the new owners will reopen the rooftop Mariner’s Club the Jehovah’s closed.

    Jenn- re: WEDDINGS
Pochron Studios at 20 Jay street in Dumbo rents its space for weddings. There’s a wedding or reception there practically every weekend. Don’t know the cost, but people usually look pretty happy. Here’s a link (click on Rental Studio for info and photos:

There’s also Bubby’s and Galapagos (in Dumbo).

For weddings – five front street has a great outdoor garden

@brooklynite, that is a very telling tidbit… you sure about this? :)

@ NOOC: Some people marry outside their culture and the other family wants to bring in some of their own food. Do you really expect that any of those american restaurant in this hood could cook indian or korean in addition to their usual american cuisine??

  • Love the Heights

Rebar, Hecho en DUMBO and Galapagos all in DUMBO are great venues for events. Frankies 457 has a terrific space, food is amazing too.

@nobody, I would assume that yes they could. Just give them recipes and tell them to use the correct rice.

I know someone that used bargemusic for her wedding reception. The view is absolutely fantastic and the price was very reasonable. The event was catered, so I’m fairly certain that there are some cooking facilities included. Although the reception was on a slightly unusual night (Tuesday before Columbus Day) the owners were very reasonable. When I arrived and discovered that there was a broken wheelchair ramp, they took something off the final price.

@ monty: exactly the comment I would expect from a burger and freedom fries eater who thinks the best beer in this world is Bud. yes, it all certainly is within the rice and for your tastebud its not making a difference who cooks it as you would never eat it in the first place.

Especially a pissing match with racist and elitist undertones. Sorry I can’t offer any advice to you Brooklynite (my wife and I eloped) but the Barge sounds like a great choice. Just be sure to inquire about there foul-weather options, as you should with any outdoor space.

  • In The Heights

Beware of one aspect of Bargemusic: PS8 had an event there once and the barge moves! There were several people there who had to leave because they felt seasick. I have a pretty strong constitution and I was feeling a bit woozy after a while as well.

Melanie Hope Greenberg, a belated thanks for telling me what’s been going on. I’ve spent the last week *not* going to BEA (went every year 1975-2002 or so)…
