    FYI, Dumbo Market has now opened on Front Street at Main.
    It’s an independently-owned supermarket affiliated with the Key Food co-op (not a branded store).
    It seems to be about 50% larger than the Key Food on Montague Street, so something to keep in mind for North Heights residents.

    I received this response regarding the high street escalators:

    Thank you for contacting my about this issue regarding one of my stations. This project has been a very intense and time consuming one from the very start. In March we suffered a flood in the escalator control room at this location. This has lead to several delays as we try to repair both the escalator and leak. We are closing in on the final solution to this and will have it repaired soon. In the meantime, there is an operational down escalator on the Adams St entrance near the courthouse. I can assure you the team that is handling this repair is working as fast and safely as possible to get this job done. I do apologize from the inconvenience.

    Huh? … I have to assume you asked what would sound like a hard-to-dodge question – “Why – given that there are 2 separate escalators at the much more highly trafficked Western exit of the station – have BOTH been set on UP during a 3-month repair process?”

    This isn’t “cutting edge.” Escalators and elevators have been bi-directional ever since they were invented. And the people who are most deterred by 250 steps down … are NOT highly likely to walk 1/2 mile to a different entrance!

    Boy, does the Transit Auth. need an ombundsman!

    Speaking of which, are we going to have to beg Gov. Cuomo to over-rule another insane bureaucrat or 2 in terms of the Clark St. Station’s possible 1-year closure?!

    Here is my original letter, so yes.
    Good morning Mr. Brown,
    The down escalator at a high street/Cadman Plaza West has been non-functioning since March. The dates keep changing to a few days or weeks in the future. Can you please advise workers to list the true date of it being available again and perhaps post what the delay is. Also there are two UP escalators would it be possible to change one to down and leave one up? The station is utilized by many elderly, children and disabled and the stairs are very steep.

    I noticed that Vegetarian Ginger, on the corner of Henry and Montague, is for rent again. Whatever the plans for the space had been, apparently they fell through.

    The BID should impose fines for empty storefronts. What the hell is going on with Montague Street? The street should be vibrant, instead just so disappointing.

    But there is also a positive aspect to it: more people will be able to live in the vicinity, and the out of control BH real estate prices will be somewhat in check.

    For those who live on or very near Joralemon Street and are used to hearing/feeling the 4 and 5 trains, have you noticed there seems to be no sound or vibration for the past week or two?

    I hope you’re right about real estate prices but what about the strain this puts on local public amenities such as schools and subway traffic? The density of the area needs to be accommodated; not saying we shouldn’t allow growth but we need help to manage it.

    This won’t make a dent in the subway/public transportation system (to be fair it will make traffic and pollution worse). As far as the public schools are concerned: build more schools, and If the population density increases and the demographics changes reaching the necessary critical mass, it will be the inevitable consequence.

    You could look at that in different ways: If you own a place in the Heights, maybe it’s not so good to see home values plateau. I agree with StudioBrooklyn though, there seems to be zero thought given to subway overcrowding and traffic with all of these new buildings.

    I don’t mean to sound impertinent, and maybe this is just my Friday afternoon drink talking, but is this a cop-out? Are you copping out on us right now? What does this conclusion mean?

    The sun is pretty high right now during the middle of the day/late afternoon so shadows will probably be more of an issue for Atlantic/State/Henry/Garden Place during the fall/winter months.

    There’s an article in the Times today which states, “Escalators across the city’s subway system were available only 92% of the time last year, down from 96% in 2012, according to figures from the MTA.”
