    Saw this on craigslist: http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/bfs/5944040146.html
It looks like Cranberry’s is for sale.

  • StudioBrooklyn

I wonder why they suggest Mexican food?

  • Andrew Porter

More depressing news, sigh. Thanks for the link.

  • SongBirdNYC

Pretty sure Jim owns the building. I’ll see if I can’t get more info.

  • Remsen St Strollin

I know the MTA says all underground subway stations have wifi, but I don’t think that is the case for Clark Street yet unless I’m missing something. Has anyone heard anything about timing for that?

  • Teresa

I haven’t been able to access it there, either. Was such a pleasant surprise a few weeks ago to have it at High Street, though.

  • FoodArtforKids.com

    Will be missed!

  • KXrVrii1

Maybe cause there is no seating, so need food that can be eaten standing up and is popular for delivery? And there isn’t a Mexican restaurant in that area (other than Jalapa Jar, but that is a more limited selection.)

  • StudioBrooklyn

My wife said she got wifi reception in the Court R station today.

  • Roberto

If it’s true that Cranberry’s is closing, it’s not the end of the world, but Brooklyn Heights without Cranberry’s will lose another vibrant personality. And, of course, many good employees will have to look for work elsewhere. (This might also mean that Jim can finally get to sleep late.) If the monthly rent moving forward is $9,500 (thousands of coffees to go), only large-pocketed folks can afford to move in. Too often, that means a corporate presence. We’ll see…..

  • EmilyW

Relatively new to the neighborhood, but the bagel shop on Montague, right before Key foods, was broken into last night.

Not a huge loss IMHO. The coffee and food there is okay but not great. The lack of a fix your own coffee station is behind the times, a PITA and slows things down. I’ll gladly walk the extra couple of blocks to Plymouth and get it exactly the way I want it.

I doubt anything “corporate” is going in that location.

I really don’t get the huge attraction to that place?

  • Mary Kim

I will miss Jim and Cranberry’s so much. He is a pillar of our community. So generous with the neighborhood, especially our school and the firehouse. His employees have been with him for a long time, which tells me he’s a good employer. His kids, when they’re behind the counter on occasion, are always so lovely. And, the best coffee beans anywhere, and my favorite, the coffee cake muffin. I will miss it so much.

  • AEB

Well, it’s sorta kinda like a poor man’s pâtisserie, coffee and sandwich pit stop: a useful local resource. If you like your baked goods made without butter, which is, of course, insane on the face of it.

  • KnickNack

Had a package stolen from our building foyer today on Columbia Hts and Clark. Total bummer. Yes I’ve tried to have a camera installed. Fellow neighbors don’t care about it (until they lose a package). Any chance we can find this low life in the neighborhood?

  • Curious Parent

Anyone have any experience with the pre-k at Dock Street or the 4’s program at Building Bridges? Pre-K registration is coming up and it seems UPK options in the area are still limited. Any help or advice is much appreciated.

  • Andrew Porter

I think it’s being utilized by all the rats in those garbage bins at the end of the platform.

  • Andrew Porter

What about the Pre-K on Henry Street, right near Cranberry’s?

  • Heights Neighbor

Completely agree! The coffee beans and the coffee cake muffins! They are both staples!

  • gummybrain

Anybody know what was going on with all the cops outside a building on State St near Sidney Pl this afternoon? They were there for quite a while.

  • CHASESGILBERT

After I had a package stolen, I pressured the building mamagement HEAVILY until they installed cameras damned near everyone. We might live in a big city, but as tenants we have a right to secure buildings; with the current robberies in 11201, a secure building means camera surveillance.

  • StudioBrooklyn

You’re thinking of Seedlings (Saplings? Snorkelings?), which is a private daycare, not a UPK.

  • StudioBrooklyn

A neighborhood friend of mine needs a recommendation for a good veterinary oncologist. Any suggestions and reviews would be appreciated!

  • Chickadee

Another break-in. The police caught the man they think did it, and that he is behind the recent string of robberies in the neighborhood. Three cheers for the passing dog-walker witness who called it in!

  • ColumbiaHeightster

No, but I can say very good things about New York Kids Club (Henry and Montague), which is a UPK. My son is in the 3’s program, not pre-k. They have fewer seats in PreK than the have current students in their 3’s program (which is the only priority group), but kids move/go to different schools, so it is worth a look.

Speaking of which, is there any chance that anyone here has actually had a child go through the Kids Club pre-k class?

  • ColumbiaHeightster

Apropos to nothing, but I was once walking home with my wife one night down Montague, and saw a man sitting at the counter facing the sidewalk, and, as George Costanza’s mother would say, he was treating his body like an amusement park. I’ve never gone inside.

  • StudioBrooklyn

A good friend of mine has a daughter in it, I hear no complaints. However, perhaps it shouldn’t go unmentioned that at the end of last [school] year there was a bit of an uproar because NYKC was unable to grant UPK seats to nearly as many of their paying 3’s kids (whose parents shelled out huge sums for tuition based on that guarantee) as they’d promised. Perhaps someone involved knows more?

  • Remsen St Strollin

Here’s the answer… Clark st is literally the final station in the whole system and goes live Monday Jan 9. Not just wifi, cell service too. https://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/20170105/midtown/cellphone-service-signal-subways

  • TeddyNYC

    That’s great news!
