Commenter Peter Loibl and the Brooklyn Eagle report that there has been a stabbing on Montague Street near Clinton Street.
Reports from the scene claim that a construction worker stabbed his boss in the neck over “unpaid wages”. Witnesses report that the stabbing occurred in the intersection of Montague and Clinton. The Brooklyn Eagle reports that a bystander was also injured.
NYPD sources tell BHB that the victim is in stable condition and being transported to Lutheran Medical Center. NYPD has a suspect in custody.
CBS New York reports that the victim’s injuries were “non-life threatening” (note that we and a commenter below received a school e-mail claiming there was a fatality – this has NOT been reported or confirmed):
The victim was identified as Yakov Pfieffer, 30. The man arrested was identified as Andray Kumymar, 20.
As of 2PM, access to Chase Bank and other businesses on Montague between Clinton and Court is blocked off.
Brooklyn Eagle reports that the victim’s condition appears “grave” and adds this about how the perp was caught:
The perp was apprehended by a heroic Gowanus resident who just happened to be on Montague Street when the melee broke out.
Witness Avi Navon told the Brooklyn Eagle that he heard the attacker yelling at roughly 1:20 p.m. that he “wasn’t paid for two weeks.” Navon said he believed the man to be a worker at the residential building going up at 172 Montague St.
“He was about five-foot ten, white with black hair,” Navon said. “I heard him arguing with the guy in the car. He took a knife, he stabbed him and ran away. I told people to catch him.”
Navon and other witnesses said the victim, who laid in the street next to traffic barriers that had been set up around the construction, had been stabbed in the neck.
Heroic Gowanus resident Joseph Washington heard the crowd screaming and jumped into action, subduing the perp and disarming him.
The Jewish Daily Forward reports about the victim:
An Orthodox Jewish clergy liaison to the New York Police Department reportedly was stabbed in Brooklyn.
The victim was rushed to the Lutheran Trauma Center after being attacked at approximately 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood, according to Yeshiva World News. His condition was not known.A spokesman for the NYPD confirmed to JTA that a stabbing occurred at the time and location reported and that the victim was taken to Lutheran Trauma, but could not provide information about the victim other than that he is a male in his 30s.
The NYPD spokesman told JTA that the victim was stabbed in the neck and that a suspect, a 20-year-old man, was apprehended at the scene.
