Last Minute Weekend Suggestions: Brooklyn Heights and Nearby

Tomorrow (Saturday, July 12) is City of Water Day, and Brooklyn Bridge Park is participating with kayaking and with Seining the River Wild. The Park’s Pier Kids series presents The Art of Stepping on Pier 1 Sunday from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. All of these events are free. Also on Sunday Smorgasburg will be on the Pier 5 uplands (near the Joralemon Street entrance) Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and, starting at noon, there will be a free Docent Tour of Pier 1.

The roller skating rink on Pier 2 has its grand opening today, and skating is free (although you will have to pay to rent skates) all day. The rink will be open seven days a week, with free admission during some hours on some days and reduced rates on Thursday evenings; details are here.

Tonight (Friday, July 11) at 7:00 Bargemusic presents the Bohemian Trio performing works by Yosvany Terry, Manuel Valera, Maurice Ravel, Pedro Giraudo, and Andres Alen. On Saturday evening at 7:00 Mark Peskanov on violin, Evan Drachman on cello, and Doris Stevenson on piano will play works by Beethoven and Schubert. Sunday afternoon at 4:00 pianist Jeffrey Swann will play works by Ives and Chopin. There’s more information and buy tickets here. Saturday afternoon at 3:00 there will be a free, family oriented “Music in Motion” concert. Doors open at 2:30; first come, first seated.

Brooklyn Heights Cinema will be showing Chef and Third Person, and will have another Saturday almost-midnight showing of Willow Creek. More information and showtimes are here.
