I haven’t been to Jack the Horse in a while. Can anyone comment on their Sunday brunch? They don’t take reservations and I’m trying to decide if it’s worth a potential wait. Thanks much…

  • marshasrimler

I encourage members of the Brooklyn Heights Association ( I am not one) to start a petition to demand that as a neighborhood organization they represent the neighborhood and withdraw their support for the BPL destruction plan

Anyone in the Heights having trouble with Time Warner wifi this morning?

  • AnnOfOrange

Slow, slow, slow….I thought it was me!

  • Chubby Burkhardt

Marsharimler – I think there is a thread below this one that is more appropriate for you to post your opinions regarding the library.

  • marshasrimler

    HI AGAIN CHUBBY
THANKS FOR YOUR BEING A GOOD NEIGHBOR
BUT THIS IS AN OPEN THREAD

  • pinapplecran

    same here

  • Chubby Burkhardt

You are absolutely right. However people who share your passion for the library and your target audience are most likely going to be reading any thread dedicated to the library.

  • marshasrimler

I want to expand my target audience.thanks

  • Eddyde

I went twice recently, the wait wasn’t that long to be seated but we waited long for the food, which was excellent.

Someone is repainting the mailboxes around Remsen and Henry and elsewhere nearby. Very nice job, with all the details outlined in white.

  • Alec

what’s the problem with the plan? You get a brand new library out of it at no cost to the taxpayer. Win win, no? Now if only they could raze the eyesore known as the NY Supreme Court on Adams St.

  • brooklynheightsblog

Marsha – we appreciate your passion and yes this is an open thread. However, we’d love it if you’d diversify your comment topics, otherwise you’re just astroturfing. Thanks.

  • Ebenezer

I agree, the food is very good

Please read this re: NY Times and its tak on LICH:

A tip of the hat goes to Shadrach Stanleigh for his twitter.

The sun is out on Saturday so come down to the Promenade to see the 5000 tulips (hopefully in flower) and to buy baked goods at the volunteer gardeners’ sale. The fruit tarts go like hot cakes at 9.30 and go well with the Lassen and Hennig’s donated coffee. From a volunteer garden taking a break from the kitchen!

Has anyone tried the new sunday dim-sum at Fortune House? I want to give it a shot, but checking to see what you folks think….

  • Kenji Takabayashi

I love their brunch, definitely worth the wait. If you have a large enough party, you can reserve. Just fyi. (I think it’s six people)

  • A Neighbor

Brilliant! If you haven’t, pls be sure to send this to the Times — the Metro Editor, the writer’s email which is full of comments supporting the piece, and his twitter account.

  • Jorale-man

Thanks all for the input on this – it’s a big help!

I go just about every Sunday at 11:00 AM so I can get my corner table with sunlight. Best Brunch in the North Heights IMHO. The Buckwheat Pancakes with fresh blueberries are special along with a side order of plentiful bacon strips. Tim does a great job. Expansion with raw bar coming soon.

We just discovered Queen. What a great place… great food, the whole 9. Did I hear someplace they secretly serve pizza?

  • Chubby Burkhardt

I second that. Not familiar about the pizza.

  • marshasrimler

you would be amazed as to how many people are unaware of this issue. I am trying to draw new people in

If, like me, you’re fond of gravlax, try the JTH Bloody Mary.

You can report private home/business damage from yesterday’s storm to 311 to help NYC receive its share of Federal disaster bucks:

“Notification issued 5/1/14 at 12:30 PM. The New York City Office of
Emergency Management encourages New Yorkers affected by yesterday’s
storm to report damage to their homes and businesses to 311. This data
will be collected, mapped, and used to assess the damage in areas
affected by the April 30 rainstorm and subsequent flooding. The City
must meet certain damage thresholds to qualify for federal disaster
assistance programs. Information reported to 311, either by phone or
online (nyc.gov/311), about damage to homes and businesses will not be
used for any purpose other than assisting OEM in developing a more
accurate assessment of the impact from the storm and flooding.”

Lots and lots of current photos of progress at Brooklyn Bridge Park here:

Other than the beautiful tulips and daffodils in the Promenade gardens, the gardens themselves look like utter crap this year. Damaged trees haven’t been pruned properly, plants and shrubbery have been removed, leaving lots of sparse sections, especially near the north end. The new gardener is an amateur. And that new condo will destroy the view of the park and the city from the north end of the Promenade. Very sad!

  • Eddyde

I heard they were looking for volunteers.
