What work is being done at the Fruit Street Sitting Area?

Hey Heights Casino… CLEAN YOUR SIDEWALK!!!!!!

  • DIBS

Lots of unshoveled sidewalks here in BH. When I had my house in Bed Stuy, my block was always shoveled. As were most others.

    Tsk, tsk

  • AmyinBH

If I were a different sort of person I would wish all the owners of buildings who did not shovel get sued by slip and fall money seeking people.

  • marshasrimler

I nominate Carolyn McIntyre and Michael White who head Citizens Defending Libraries for their outstanding work

is parking legal on the north side of Pierrepont between Henry and Hicks? Cars are always parked there despite the signs.

  • Alec

only if you are mobbed up/connected/living in a fake democracy where the rules don’t apply equally to everyone. Or if you are handicapped.

Dog owners beware of the lamppost in front of Ricky’s (107 Montague). My dog got an electrical shock several times, walking by it, when the sidewalk was wet. I reported it to 311 on Saturday, they transferred it to 911 and the fire department showed up in minutes. They shut the power to it, flagged it off with caution tape and told the manager of Ricky’s to have it fixed ASAP. However, yesterday evening the lamp was back on. I called Ricky’s and complained. The lamp is off now but anyone walking a dog should avoid walking by the lamppost if the sidewalk is wet especially, if it is lit.

No, only on Tuesday 8:00-18:00hrs. Unless you have a special parking permit.

Finally made it to Sociale last week … VERY good experience. Carbonara was spot on (albeit smallish in portion), and the meatballs and wine were on point. It was a snowy day during lunch, so I can’t speak to the ambiance, but I can tell the staff is very buttoned up. I will certainly return (and welcome tot the neighborhood, great addition!).

  • Brixtony

Izzy says thanks for the heads-up.

  • David on Middagh

    Upvoted for timely importance.

Disappointingly but predictably, Eimi Salon at Eastern Athletic has closed. Got great haircuts/color there for very reasonable prices, and am now desperate for pre-holiday haircut. Any recommendations, local or otherwise? Skill with curly hair a +. Any thoughts on Diva, on Henry St?

  • Hicks St Guy

    what’s the problem?

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlsiLOnWCoI Arch Stanton

The next time the sidewalk is wet, ask Ricky’s to turn the lamp on then walk by it barefoot. That should make the problem pretty clear to you.

  • CookieGuggleman

Highly recommend Parlor on Atlantic Ave in Boerum Hill. All the stylists are great. http://parlorhairsalon.com/brooklyn.html

Too bad about Eimi. It was a tough spot for a business inside Eastern Athletic given the lack of a storefront. The nail tech is still working there.

  • GHB

    Thank you, Arch!

If ref. to the Heights Library.
George Soros famously changed his mind and made billions.
I have looked at the proposals and changed my mind. This could work.
The preferred proposals would be, first of all, the ones that best cover up the homely, brick backside of the Morgan Stanley building.
The next criterion should be minimizing the sky-blocking effect which several of them do very nicely. In other words, keep the shadows being cast on the park areas to a minimum.
The next criterion should be the way in which the library is the main, open to the public entrance and not an after-thought, and again, some do that better than others.
I can see light-at-the-end-of-this-give-away-to-developers tunnel. This could definitely work and it would be a rare case of turning lead into gold but it looks promising.
Let’s hope the so-called advisory board stays on the case and watches out for the publlc interest.

oh, you don’t have adorable booties for your doggie? Arch, you consistently post/comment upon more deserving matters, what happened?

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlsiLOnWCoI Arch Stanton

Why don’t you think warning people of a potential shock hazard is “deserving”. Are you in favor of dogs being hurt?

You are welcome to come by and try to put booties on my dog. The spectacle would be most amusing.

  • Monty

Look in the windshields. It’s the highest concentration of parking permits in the city. Police, DA, handicap, all of it.

  • Jorale-man

I’ve noticed that the homeowners not shoveling are largely the same ones who didn’t clean the leaves off their sidewalks a month ago. A bit of a pattern there.

  • David on Middagh

    Oooh, look! Meta upvotes!

  • Izzy R.

Does anyone have a recommendation for reputable chimney cleaning company? Would love to have a fire for the holidays, but not a 3-alarm one! Any advice would be most appreciated.

  • Remsen Street Dweller

Salon Van Sickel, right here on Middagh Street is great — and so is Diana, who does my hair.

If a 20-lb dog can get an electric shock, so can a 20-lb toddler child. Does that make it a worthwhile concern for the scoffers?

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlsiLOnWCoI Arch Stanton

Good point, my dog weighs about 100 pounds and he got a powerful jolt. So any human could get shocked as well. The difference being, we are wearing boots or shoes that insulate our feet from the current. Although, it is possible a child could be touching the ground with their hands and get a shock.

  • GHB

Glad your dog is OK. Thanks for the alert!

  • flannery

Any local butcher recommendations for a Christmas roast? Heights Prime Meats vs. Della Pietras vs. Los Pasianos vs. anyplace else?

  • Hicks St Guy

wow, you’re really macho about your dog. sorry if I’m not impressed.
