As we previously announced, the Brooklyn Heights Association will hold its annual meeting this Wednesday evening, February 22, starting at 7:30, at St. Francis College, 180 Remsen Street, between Clinton and Court. The guest speaker will be Sam Sifton (photo), Heights native and Brooklyn resident who is now the national editor of the New York Times, having previously served as its culture and, later, food editor. He will speak about the burgeoning Brooklyn restaurant scene.
Sam was born in Brooklyn Heights, grew up on Willow Street and has spent a lifetime eating his way across the Borough, from Lundy’s to Junior’s while growing up, from Park Slope to Williamsburg today…. he knows what goes on in the kitchen and out front.
True to his roots, Sifton still lives in Brooklyn, with his wife and daughters. No one is better equipped to talk about the pleasures and challenges of Brooklyn’s tumultuous food scene.. and no one can do it with more zest.
The meeting will also feature a report by BHA President Jane McGroarty on local matters of interest, and the presentation of community service and restoration awards by Channel 13 personality and Heights resident Tom Stewart.
