Tree Pruning Underway in Brooklyn Heights

The Brooklyn Heights Association tells us that the City Parks Department has begun pruning street trees in Brooklyn Heights from Atlantic Avenue to Pierrepont Street. This is done on a ten year cycle. Thanks to funds contributed by BHA members and earmarked for tree maintenance, pruning will be extended to include six more blocks north of Pierrepont. The BHA regrets that funds aren’t available to cover pruning for all of Brooklyn Heights. More details are here.

Our block was pruned on one side but not the other. Anyone know if their plan is to come back to do the other side as well?

I don’t think Grace Court was on the BHA’s list but we were the first to be done.

All blocks south of Pierrepont are definitely on the Parks Department’s roster to be covered in this cycle which is why Grace Court has been done. The BHA’s triage that came up with six blocks started with blocks north of Pierrepont Street. (BHA website has that detail.) J & J is not finished yet in the south Heights. They time their arrival based on the parking regulations and are slowed by any activity which comes with curbside blockages (e.g. construction, movie shoots). Melissa, If I know the block you live on I might be able to answer the question.

Thanks Judy – Henry between Clark & Pierrepont.

Wish they would do more trees in the off-neglected North Heights!

I can’t believe that they prune the trees and leave the shredded plastic bags and wrappings snarled in the branches. Hello? Can they please spend an extra moment to remove the debris caught in the tree limbs?
The BHA should insist on that.
