Here’s another view from 1903, showing the mounting block in front, for people arriving by horse-drawn carriage:

The fire box on Hicks and Joralemon was knocked down last night. Anyone know what happened? :( https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/142bdd1a6fd13ab253a85648d4bb0386282ae52303f493afe57c805a513d4dad.jpg

Mint Heights has a sticker on door saying it was shut by Dep’t of Health on March 25

Boo. Order from there all the time.

According to their Instagram, the new Montague Diner had to close all Monday and Tuesday to “expand their kitchen”. Here’s hoping whatever did eases the pain of their success and keeps them around for years to come.

I saw this and it’s a really tragedy. There’s zero chance the city will replace this and it gives the neighborhood a touch of old school charm.

Any chance it’s required to be replaced by Landmark laws?

Oh no I eat there all the time. Consistency and fastidiousness clearly receive less attention than their Roti’s.

Very good idea maybe the LPC will replace it.

I think you’re commenting on the wrong restaurant. ;-)

    Still gonna order from there?

Filth flies or food/refuse/sewage associated with flies or other nuisance pests in establishment’s food and/or non-food areas.

Establishment is not free of … conditions conducive to rodents, insects or other pests.

Evidence of rats or live rats in establishment’s food or non-food areas.

Live roaches in facility’s food or non-food area.

…or maybe just consider those as added protein in your order?

We were married there in 1976 by The Rev. Stanley Rice.

I wanted to check out an allegation, printed in these very pages in the last few days, that a cargo ship had hit the Bklyn Bridge in the 1980’s. I could neither confirm nor deny that story, because this caught my eye, and it’s some very fine journalism. A story this good … not written by Mary Frost. There’s a news story in and of itself!

    N.M,

We don’t remember this 2014 accident the mast of a cargo ship hitting the bridge.

We remember an accident the ship had hit the stone foundation of the bridge one evening around 6pm 1988 9r 1989.

I don’t think Landmarks does things like that. I suggest asking the BHA. Maybe there could be a Go Fund Me or something.

I was in the choir there in the early 1970’s, led by Stanley Rice. He was amazingly kind and wonderful, like Mr. Rogers in my eyes!
