My best wishes to everyone in this most magical time of the year. Here’s a linen advert from an earlier time:

anybody else see the big sink hole in the middle of willow place? i reported it to DOT Monday night and they punted to DEP on Tuesday

I see there are now “FoodTown coming soon” signs up at the old RiteAid spot on Joralemon & Clinton. Nice to see a dead zone getting filled in but do you think there’s a big need for another grocery store?

  • Somethings brewing

we can use another one, just not another mediocre one.

For those who need to make a little room for impending holiday gifts, the little lending library on the corner of Greece Court, Alley and Hicks Street is pretty Baron once again. Take a look around and see what you might be ready to part with!

They seem to be pretty much the same as Key Food. To me this means nothing interesting or new, just possibly more convenient or better priced.

This also concerns me. If a decent segment of Montague Key Food customers shop here instead, Key Food will have to increase their already high prices, which will drive yet more customers to other options, therefore creating a death spiral. :-/

    Food Town is mediocre.

Ha ha. I live extremely close to there so it will save me a few blocks over walking to TJ’s, Ley or Fresh Start.

Guess I have too much time…. I “researched’ your “Ley” option and found – of course – grocers with that name.

In Calif. or Texas, I think. But those researches also turned up an old Reddit post about Foodtown that makes interesting reading. We’re all mostly creatures of habit when it comes to thinks like grocery shopping, but if one doesn’t have a de facto boycott of Amazon going, both Whole Foods & Amazon Fresh probably are worth a long hard look … in the new year. I remember reading that the owner (present one??) of Key/Montague is an absolutely awful man, but leaving that aside, the poster who spoke of a doom cycle has it right. Both Key & D’Agostino clearly are hanging in there – are they “very” profitable? – by adopting pricing in line with $3K/month studio rentals. Obviously, food & shelter are must haves, so … whatcha gonna do? (But obviously, one CAN trade time & convenience for money in both spheres.)

Oh yes, I think I read that “Keys” and possibly Foodtowns are buying co-ops, so that YMMV applies to diff. stores with the same “branding.” This is true, IMO, in terms of the Key on Atlantic, where prices don’t make every trip feel like being robbed.

  • Jorale-man

Good points. Though doesn’t the Montague Key Food have a right-wing, Trumpy owner? I don’t know about FoodTown but that could be a check in their column.

  • Banet

    Yes, he is.

  • Andrew Porter

That Key Food has a great collection of toys on the shelves above the yogurt display, too!
