The Metro North and Enterprise have a great deal where you take the railroad out of the city to a stop with an Enterprise office, they pick you up, and off you go. Enterprise gives a great discount with this partnership. My husband and I have done this several times – its wonderful!

Does anyone know the fireworks schedule for the entire summer?

I know we lost the Macy’s 4th of July on the East River, but I remember from last year, we got at least 10 or more great displays.

There was a schedule last year, can’t seem to find one this year.

    Anyone know?

  • In the Heights

So totally disgusted by Haagen Daaz!!! I was in there last week and they were vacuuming the display cases with this dirty vacuum hose right above the ice cream!!! Yuk yuk yuk. We need Sweet Melissa in the Heights. Anyone know what the story is with that?

  • promenade

In the heights – don’t know about Sweet Melissa’s opening but Jacque Torres is opening his ice cream bar in DUMBO on Saturday the 30th (check http://weblogs.amny.com/entertainment/urbanite/blog/2009/05/coming_this_weekend_jacques_to.html)
    – know its not the heights, but I will NOT frequent that Haagen Daaz.

Is there still a possibility of a Tea Lounge opening in the Heights?

thanks promenade for sharing the jacque torres update! looking forward to that. anyway news on new restaurants/bakeries/cafes moving into the open spaces on henry street? that would be a wonderful treat!

as a side note, if you’re looking to get out of the city without a car to do something fun this summer, my mother and i run a really great outdoor jazz festival, the litchfield jazz festival, which is moving to kent, ct july 31-august 2. the metro north train (harlem line) stops at ten mile river, just about 2 hours from grand central, and we’re running a shuttle. i’d love to see some BH folks there! jane monheit, preservation hall jazz band, poncho sanchez, bucky pizzarelli, benny green and many others. also great food vendors, fine artists, crafters and such. it’s a non-profit and there is also a jazz camp which runs for 4 weeks in july before the festival (proceeds support camp scholarships).

I just returned from the Court, Street/State Street area. There is a large and growing police presence that I thought the BHB community should know about. Unfortunately had not had my camera with me. The police were being very quiet and non-responsive to questions about what was happening. Perhaps Homer with his vast journalistic resources can get some answers!

Anyone know if there’s a place around here to sell your used DVDs? Does Gamestop buy them?

  • nabeguy

Thanks for the uplifting link, Homey. My day isn’t complete unless I get word of the latest DOA floater in the city.

  • Homer Fink

@tksmall the suspicious package call last night was “cleared” at 8pm according to our own Marc Hermann. Nothing to see here as it were…

  • psychic scam artists on Montague

I was wondering how the “psychic business” on Montague has existed in the neighborhood so long. I can see how this may have an entertainment value, but I have heard that the psychic family tries to scam people out of money by claiming people are cursed or have blocked chakras. I think this place should be shut down.

  • The Where

My psychic abilities tell me you are correct. Given the weekday clientele of Montague Street (aka court workers) I’m sure they believe in voodoo, santaria, the boogieman, Jesus or whatever other made up crap you want them to drink up like lemonade on a hot summer’s day. Now if they combined that with a PayDay loan facility it would be a perfect storm.

You can try IMAGE rent a car. They are located in Brooklyn on 391 Empire Blvd and they DO DELIVER 2 U. Also JFK and Newark Airport location 1-888-718-0001. The customer service is super, the luxury cars and 15 passenger van rentals are in great shape and best of all, the prices are reasonable. Its a mom and pop shop- but that makes them affordable. Check them out!
