Anyone have an update to why L&B Spumoni Gardens on Fulton hasn’t opened yet?

  • karateca2000

The space of the former Le pain quotidien on Montague now has stickers with the new restaurant name: Chaka mama

    https://www.chamamama.com/

Apparently it will serve Georgian ( the county) food. I can’t wait to try it.

We’ve eaten at the one in Chelsea.I really hope it will open soon although the signs have been up for a while and there hasn’t been much movement. It would be such a great addition… good food and a fun vibe.

Looks like we (citizens of BH) may have lucked out with this one. The NYT used to have a “cheap eats” column. Here’s the link:

One of the comments (from a reader/patron of the rest.) reads as follows:

Clean, modern space, attractively priced wine list with a great variety of red and white Georgian wines, delicious food and friendly service. This was our experience in July, a few months after the restaurant’s opening. The food was simply sublime, with outstanding flavors in every dish. i have tried the food at a few Georgian places in South Brooklyn, all highly rated, and yet, Chama Mama definitely stood out. I remember sharing the cold appetizer platter, the adjaruli khachapuri and the chmerkuli chicken among four of us and it was plenty of food.

It’s funny. I spent a week in Tiblisi, Georgia in 1998. I loved food, frequently seek out authentic experiences, had a local showing me around, deeply miss the heyday of the Chowhound website… and I’ve never eaten worse food in my life than that week in Georgia.

I look forward to seeing what I missed!

I’m so happy this restaurant is coming to Montague St! I’ve had lunch several times at the Chelsea location and it’s delicious. Plenty of healthy options and decadently rich, cheese filled options. The flatbreads are baked in the oven right there in the restaurant.

A Brooklyn Eagle Postcard showing the Brooklyn Savings Bank Building, Clinton and Pierrepont Streets, with the Hotel Touraine in the left background. All buildings shown here are gone:

Here’s a PC of the Touraine and whatever that is to its right on the east side of Clinton. Both long gone:

I’ve assumed issues getting the gas turned on, but that’s just a guess…

A stone fell from the facade of 16 Court Street. The Eagle has the story:

Just took a walk along the Promenade in today’s 57F weather—and there are snowdrops blooming in the Remsen Street side garden, and crocuses just north of the flagpole at Montague!

The bagel store on Montague was closed today, with a Board of Health notice on the front window.

Bossert Hotel staves off foreclosure (for now) while it tries to work out deal with Ian Schrager. This’ll be awesome if it works!

Anyone else seeing weird, unsettling ads on this site?
The baby with one eyeball for example?

  • Effective Presenter

We have not, I visit BHB two or three times a week.

  • Eddyde

Ads are targeted, so you must be in the market for a one eyed baby…

has anyone heard a sonic/plane-engine like sound on and off throughout the day and night? we hear it from Willow street and cant place it. never noticed it until the last few months.

  • FatFreddy’sCatheter

Yikes! That’s not Dar-Rala Syrian cuisine!

  • Cranberry Beret

Yes. I hear it whenever I go to/from the Promenade at the Orange St entrance from Columbia Heights. My ears tell me it’s coming from equipment on top of 97 Columbia Heights (HVAC? elevator?), which is directly across the street, though I suppose it’s also possible the sound is bouncing from equipment on the newly renovated 107 Columbia Heights.

  • Red Leader

ha! Their food DOES look really good though!

  • Meredith Kurnov

I poked my head in yesterday and they are estimating an opening in June. Can’t wait!
