Yay. It was needed. Hicks is is a busy thoroughfare and often dangerous to cross.

Unfortunately many property owners find sidewalk sheds are cheaper to use indefinitely than doing the necessary masonry work and that’s the heart of the problem. This is something that needs to be addressed by law as it’s out of control in NYC. I would suggest escalating fines as years drag on. NYC is unique in having exponentially more of these eyesores.

Not sure but the shipping containers on the platform make me wonder if it’s the Billion oyster project. They use those containers for seeding new oyster beds and that inlet is one of their designated beds.

Oh I’m sure they worked out a deal to start early (or maybe just confident they’d close), but the deed filed with the city is dated October 12

Long time, first time here. As an alumni of SFC that still lives in the neighborhood I’m very disappointed to see the college move away as well with how that decision was abruptly communicated.

Every time I walk by the conditions around including graffiti, trash etc look very demoralizing albeit i imagine just temporary.

I think SFC was a big plus for the BK heights community. It was a truly unique place where one can have a pool, basketball court, volleyball gym, auditorium etc all in one place.

Unfortunately, what is left is trash, graffiti and memories of once vibrant block.

Aha! A typo in my original post – I meant November 2021. Scaffolding there since 2011 would be another story. I’ve been out of town, curious to see if there’s been any progress when I get back, even if it’s minute.
