The novel The Postman, by David Brin, was a wonderful novel; the film version was terrible. More about the novel here:

My screenshot of Marilyn Monroe in a phony toothpaste commercial in the film The Seven-Year Itch:

Talk about the realities of the restaurant business in this virus-afflicted world: the door of Vineapple was closed when I went by last, but I still think it’s under construction inside.

It’s relevant – maybe. Only a youngish person would think that “old” is derogatory. It’s inevitable and right now very much a risk factor. There are things to get peeved about; this isn’t one.

In fact the film was so terrible it became quite funny.

You got it all wrong –

    The future: now.
    Here: closings like this one.

It’s not relevant. Stick to the facts and the blog’s code of conduct-and, you know, common decency.

Agreed. My kiddo ranks their macaroni & cheese as number one on his list. Thankfully the recipe is in Dan Pashman’s book, “Eat More Better.” Our family has celebrated many milestones at Jack the Horse. Hubby and I have had many date nights there too. I really hope they pull through. If they find a buyer, it doesn’t necessarily mean the chef is leaving. He may stay as head chef, hopefully.

This blog is dominated by the opinions of a few self righteous people. You post an opinion they don’t agree with they come after you.

Also, many writers and actors still choose to live here. We can’t ascribe any reasons to it other than it’s a nice neighborhood with beautiful views & streets but it’s nice to think we contribute to the “niceness” as neighbors.

Speaking for myself, many of the more famous neighbors are people whose work I’m a huge fan of, independently of living nearby, and as an artist that’s a kind of respect that exists irrespective of fame. (I’m not inhuman, though; I’m sure I get starstruck like anybody else.)

This helicopter (N9BQ) is not owned by the police and is not the news. So they are disturbing all of downtown Brooklyn today, Thursday afternoon, probably for some lame b-roll on one of the few warm days we have to open our windows while we are all stuck inside. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/e404fe254e22be8c85db646ff19e54b21a8707c2db128bd1a8bf5abf1c51921a.jpg

Local legend Elizabeth Scholtz died on April 22 at her home in Brooklyn Heights. She was 98.

Ironically, Teresa’s picked a really good time to close their doors—about 6 weeks before they would have had to close anyway.

  • Reggie

I wonder how she signed her correspondence. I don’t know anyone who didn’t call her either Ms. Scholtz or Betty depending on their level of familiarity. I saw CVM’s comment and asked myself, who is Elizabeth Scholtz?

Anyone else hear the fireworks at 12:40am last night? WTF was that about? Two 30-60 bursts spaced about 1 min apart. It sounded as loud as the professional fireworks that happen over the river but of course that’s implausible and more likely just DIY down by BBP…

  • meschwar

Definitely heard and saw them. Seemed to be coming from north downtown Brooklyn-ish. Like near McLaughlin Park. Looked roughly like professional fireworks, not the stuff you buy off the highway.

Opera singer(s) on Hicks. Anyone walk over to watch them? First of all, they’re amazing. Secondly, not a lot of social distancing happening there.

Gee, I get it on Orange Street and without a problem. Perhaps there is something wrong your IP address or something like that. Try subscribing again and again. Eventually it should work.

That’s like asking of an airline company if you’ve ever flown a plane. If you go into business, you commit to serve the public. If you are not prepared to do so then you have no right to be in business.

Article about cities in NYTimes. What makes it especially interesting is a picture of the northern part of Brooklyn Heights in 1930. I can see my roof.

Arch, what business HAVEN’T you been involved in? From reading your posts, you hold yourself out as being involved in city planning, construction, and restaurants. I’m pretty sure there are others… Either you’re full of knowledge, or something else…

  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7nPOzGeyaw Arch Stanton

LOL, Well I have worn a few hats in my life but “city planning” wasn’t one of them, although, I have been involved in construction projects that were for the city so perhaps that’s where you got that from. Yes construction, contracting and building trades have been my main endeavor. I built out about 8 restaurants in my career, one of which I was a partner in for several years.
Other jobs I held briefly: Security system maintainer/installer, Paymaster for merchant ships, Shore-gang also for merchant ships, Environmental remediation, Bike messenger, Liquor store clerk & Marijuana dealer.
