Andrew and AEB are correct. They posted the sign, but have since taken it down. The staff confirmed that they are not closing.

Yes. I saw workers installing it about a week ago. It doesn’t appear to be refrigerated but I could be wrong. It wasn’t clear to me whether it was a temporary morgue or just being used for outdoor triage. (It has a ramp, and a tent over the ramp’s entrance, as if intended for people waiting to get in, not just personnel who are loading it.)

And that’s even with the street cleaning being completely suspended. Amazing how much trash is brought into our neighborhood by visitors. :-/

Also good to hear the bridge is all but empty. I was thinking of taking the family on a walk over the bridge but was concerned it would still be fairly populated.

I haven’t seen that a specific amount is allocated to the project. However, the new budget does make permanent the design-build authority for the project that was temporarily granted two years ago. So that’s good news, if construction ever starts…

Nice. Where’d you find that photo?

The Furman Street warehouses sure were hulking.

Total opposite of what I see. Yes, it’s less crowded but not a ghost town.

Can’t say 6 feet away from people in a city with almost 9 million people.

Plenty of people out when I go out in the morning not following social distancing or wearing a face covering.

If you’re an able body person cross out into the street or on the other side. I’m tired of doing the Texas 2 step.

NYC should’ve been totally locked down like Wuhan. Give passes to go out and such.

Essential, means going to the store or pharmacy. Not galavanting around the neighborhood.

It’s a refrigerated old Walmart truck. Mobile Morgue. There’s a locked door leading to the ramp.

Good point. I haven’t heard a street cleaner in quite a while, now that you mention it. To your and Andrew’s points, I’ll never get why people think it’s acceptable to throw their trash on the sidewalk, especially when there’s a bin on nearly every corner here.

  • Jorale-man

Interesting. I tend to go out for exercise early in the morning (before 7) or later in the evening for that very reason. So I haven’t encountered the same issues so much.

I agree though, the city could stand to be a lot tougher. Even the UK is much stricter than here.

    Thanks!

I also contacted Mary; it was fixed promptly.

I was out yesterday, to go to Perelandra, and passed lots of people without masks—including one woman pushing a stroller. Neither she nor the kid has masks on.

Also saw what must have been a bunch of tourists, no masks. Maybe with a see-NY-and-die attitude.

  • BrooklynHeightzer

OK not to wear masks outside, just keep appropriate distance, a MUST to wear them in enclosed public spaces.

The masks can be very effective for preventing an infected person from spreading the virus. Thus everyone should be wearing one out in public.

Hi, this is my first post. I’ve been out of town since early March. I’m driving home next week and wanted to ask about the street parking situation. I know that alternate-side parking has been suspended (perhaps indefinitely?). I’m wondering if any of you have noticed any non-metered street parking spots available anywhere from the Heights down to Carroll Gardens. Or is all the street parking occupied since no one is moving their cars or driving anywhere? (I’m wondering if I need to reserve space at a garage.) Thank you in advance for any information.

  • CJ

    Wow, this is very scary.

  • CJ

Completely agree. My friends are all wearing masks, as I will be when I return next week. We can’t all be protected unless we all wear them.

The doctors in the Middle Ages had the right idea: detail from then (I think the hat and cloak make it):

In the North Heights, I’ve seen plenty of open spots. Seems to me that the lack of business traffic to downtown & the people who’ve left town, have more than offset the people whose cars are staying put.

  • CJ

Thank you very much, I am just seeing this now! Much appreciated. Return got a bit delayed, returning tomorrow.

Over the last few weeks, parking has been plentiful–almost absurdly so for this neighborhood. This week, though, it’s tightened up, perhaps because more people are returning to New York.
