I can certainly see how the output from these, bouncing of the Pierhouse would make quite a racket.

I don’t think those are the structures; these have been around since the A/C were built in the 1940s. The actual ventilator is between the BQE and the PierHouse.

Hey, Claude, the Atlantic Antic is Sunday! How about a separate write-up?

  • Bongo

That’s exactly where that is. Here’s an aerial shot. Look at the curve of the Pierhouse. Not only does it reflect the noise, but it focuses it as well. Right back to the Fruit Sitting Area https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/17dca14de9f57a7b1acf0abeddf31771db50ba4435084f7b0ab2dbd5fbac2992.jpg

Gosh, you’re right and I’m wrong!

  • StudioBrooklyn

Dear neighbors, a little help please:

What’s the best shoe repair within a ten-minute walking radius of, say, Montague & Henry? The guys at Peerless, next to the ice cream shop, exasperate me. I’m looking for a balance of (and your commentary on) price, quality, and the kind of service that convinces me the person working there actually values my business.

  • Reggie

Not you, silly! My dad rides a purple and white bike inscribed, “The Chop Shop,” or at least that was the joke that you didn’t get.

  • Concerned

So sad, SB. Your kid starts attending a uppity private school and now you’re above all of us working class in the neighborhood. I never thought you’d go so quickly…

  • StudioBrooklyn

What would the other parents think if they found out I was repairing my own shoes with duct tape and found twine?

  • Edwin

Roma, the place on Court and Montague, has been voted one of the best shoe repair places in the whole city, by at least a couple sources (like NY Mag). I personally have never been (live very close to Peerless), and find it hard to believe. But, supposedly, that’s the case.

I used Crazy Glue and cardboard back in the Bad Old Days.

How is the Russian guy in the St. George Arcade rated?

    Shoe Goo is your friend.

  • StudioBrooklyn

I used Shoe Goo on my other shoes, and it worked.

My problem right now is that I have a broken leather flip-flop strap. These are fancy flip-flops, for flip-flopping around the fabulous parents at my kid’s fancy-ass private school.

The place on the west side of Clinton between Remsen and Montague has always done a great job for me.

  • Concerned

Ahhhhhh. I get it, now. Just a little too vague for me at the time. Your Dad is a bad-a$$, by the way.

  • Bornhere

    (It’s between Remsen and Joralemon.)

  • redlola

my friend’s dad owns peerless :). go into the one in the clark street train station.

The iron-hulled sailing ship “Waverly” will dock at South Street Seaport today, Saturday, at about 5pm. Should be quite a spectacle as she sails up the East River beforehand. I expect to go out to watch; you should too! And today’s weather is truly wonderful…

If its any consolation; Norman Mailer used to walk around the hood wearing a down vest that was patched with duck tape.

Thanks! I’ll be out to greet her, camera in hand.

Yikes! Rumors of a softening rental market may be true: http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/nfb/5797019174.html

Can anyone recommend an emergency dentist in/near the Heights? Someone open say, on Saturday nights or Sundays?

  • StudioBrooklyn

His kids must’ve gotten into Imagine via the random lottery.

  • North Heights Res

PS: Any info/experience with Lieberman Dental in DUMBO?

  • gc

I think the actual name is Wavertree, Odd name, saw it come in this PM. Nice replacement for Peking!

  • StudioBrooklyn

My wife used to go to him, then experienced some egregious unprofessional thing or other and held the grudge. I’ll have to see if she remembers what it was about. Probably some combination of poor quality work and indignation at being asked to rectify the problem.

  • Moni

Where have you been? For 8 years our obstructionist Repiublican Congress has done everything possible to stop any investment in infrastructure.

  • Andrew Porter

I go to Dr. Moshman, 89 Remsen Street, who is NOT open on weekends—except twice now he’s opened on a Saturday because I had an emergency. His website, with more info, is here:

  • North Heights Res

Thank you. Not sure he’d do that for a non-customer, but good to know. Appreciate it.
