DUMBO’s PS Bookshop is apparently going out of business by the end of April, Gothamist reports:

    http://gothamist.com/2016/04/05/ps_bookshop_dumbo.php

Brownstoner wrote up the modernist JW building at the corner of Columbia Heights and Pineapple Street, and I made a comment:

    http://www.brownstoner.com/architecture/brooklyn-heights-historic-district-peter-blake-ulrich-franzen/

New marina is about to open in Brooklyn Bridge Park:

    http://www.brownstoner.com/brooklyn-life/brooklyn-bridge-park-marina-opening-one15-tim-obrien/

Okay, I think that’s enough BH news and links for one post.

  • Jeffrey Smith

I’m really sorry to hear about PS Books, we bought several really good little known rare history non fiction items. A loss for both dumbo and the Heights.

“we bought several really good little known rare history non fiction items”
Wow, I didn’t think they would have sold copies of the Turner Diaries.

Has anyone had any experience with the drop-in medical clinic on Montague (old Crumbs location)? Cost? I’ve had a lingering cold/sore throat, would take forever to see my PCP and thought I’d check it out. BTW, happy to see the sun and warmer temps today!

Hey, here’s an idea, has anyone been following whats happening on the net re: the arch of the temple of baal going to be erected in london and New York at Times Sq. (How appropriate)

So why can’t we ask for a 3D printer copy of the temple of Baal, or at least the arch of the temple be erected at the foot of Montague St. What a great idea! Numerous cults and hords of billionaires will come to worship! Imagine the cash flow for local shops..such a deal!

And its an Eco friendly idea! Think of all the Baal worshipers already in BH who would have to travel to Times Sq or already have to travel to the U.N.

  • Concerned

ARCH STANTON! You are now starting a rude and unnecessary fight on the blog. STOP! Put your personal feelings aside and let the man post about a book store.

  • Elaine Rendon

I know this isn’t about our neighborhood but this past week there were two thefts in Cobble Hill , one in broad daylight! A young woman was robbed in her apartment complex on hicks. just two days later, a young woman had her phone stolen on Columbia st. Please be careful everyone. I don’t say this to create unnecessary worry but more so that we may take precaution!

Also, there’s been a lot of cats roaming the streets at night (particularly around Montague terrace. If anyone is missing pets, make sure to let vets and groups know incase it is your pet.

I went there a month ago. The doctor I saw was very nice and did seem to be fairly competent but was a bit absent minded, forgetting to send some of the prescriptions to the pharmacy. The pharmacist at echoed that feeling saying that doctor made lots of “mistakes”.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlsiLOnWCoI Arch Stanton

LOL Jeffrey, we all know it’s you.

  • LDS

Hmmmm. I was thinking a simple strep test. How much did they charge you? thanks for the reply.

  • AEB

I have–and have had good experiences there. Once there to check out a post-angiogram condition (the doctor I saw didn’t know what was going on but was candid about that) and another time re bronchitis, for which I was given good advice and useful prescriptions.

But perhaps the best part was that in neither case did I have to wait long to be seen. I consider the place a great local resource for hypochondriacs like me and others.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlsiLOnWCoI Arch Stanton

Should be okay for something like that. I forgot what the cost was but it wasn’t outrageous.

  • Teresa

I wonder if this is a colony of cats that needs to be spayed/neutered/fed/taken care of on a regular basis? About how many, and how long have you been seeing them?

  • Elaine Rendon

I’ve seen about 4 cats, all different. I always see them when I’m walking my dog which is why I can’t pick them up. I always go back incase they’re still there but they always leave.

  • Teresa

Thanks, Elaine. Will try to see them and see if they’re friendly or feral.

  • LDS

Thanks AEB, good to know. That’s in the Hillary headquarters bldg, correct?

  • AEB

The walk-in is at 300 Cadman. I believe HC’s HQ is at 1 Pierrepont Plaza.

  • Jeffrey Smith

And Arch, why don’t you tell us about “Winston Smith”? Perhaps its my speculation but when a hostile attacking entity with 99.9% ceases and another with 99.9% of the earlier hostile’s M.O. suddenly appears under a
totally new name, I have to wonder if this or both assumed names or what in truth is occurring with these two post names….

One thing though, at the height of the Winston Smith attacks, who shows up than LM offering to provide the ” home address” of “Winston Smith” Needless to say, he was politely but forcefully set away….

But what about it. Does everyone here remember the very close copy of
Arch’s act under the name Winston, who, too claimed to frequent the 2nd Div. Appellate Court youth scene, denounced all the real and fabricated activities Archie now does….

  • Concerned

No. This is Concerned. See my punctuation, Arch Stanton?

  • Jeffrey Smith

Why don’t you ask Arch what he may know about a post name; “Winston Smith” as asked about below…

  • Maggie

Just thought I’d give you all a heads’ up. My crappy car was parked on Garden Place Sunday night and when I went to move it Monday someone had gotten the window open, unlocked the driver’s side door, and rifled through all of the cubbies and pockets they could find. Fortunately for me there was absolutely nothing worth stealing and the guilty party didn’t take that out on the car by causing any damage. I guess my little dinged up Toyota hatchback looked like an easy target compared to the monster SUVs and fancy cars that might have alarms.

Has anyone noticed a new massage parlor that opened on the corner of Remsen and Clinton Streets called the “Sunshine Spa?” It’s in the basement with a neon sign and red curtains that are sometimes left open revealing a bed with sheets and blankets. Perhaps that’s where the proprietor sleeps but it struck me as a bit curious.

  • Jeff Smith

There now are self contained alarm systems which simply plug into a dash power source like an old lighter and covers the interior with motion sense and has a loud alarm. Best thing is there is no installation just plug in, activate and the car is protected. The systems have entrance and exit delays. Affordable too.

Scaffolding going up today around the old Brooklyn Heights Cinema.

  • Andrew Porter

I understood that it’s all legal and on the up-and-up (hence, no “happy endings”) but now I see they have a sign on the outside of their door, which is a violation of Landmark rules. I called it in to the BHA.

  • StudioBrooklyn

Is it possible you’re talking about the same building? Since we don’t have a street called Pierrepont Plaza, to my knowledge, that might just be the name of the building at 300 Cadman.

  • Andrew Porter

New this morning: The JW properties at 25-30 Columbia Heights, and the 135,000 sq. ft lot at 85 Jay Street, are about to be sold. Details here:

Lauren Gill’s 84th Precinct Police Blotter report over on “The Brooklyn Paper”:

Do people really leave their valuables unprotected while they play sports at BBP? Yes.

  • Andrew Porter

Pierrepont Plaza is the official name of the building at 300 Cadman Plaza West. If you don’t believe me, ask Hillary Clinton…
