Um, I just looked at the instagram of ChaseSGilbert. Indeed, it’s the same guy who’s photo is above. But he only has 103 followers, not 45,000.

Talk about messing with statistics. ;-)

There are lots of potential sources. First, I would access directories like Coles or REDI for past years.Which RE entities owned buildings in the area and the time period you’re interested in. A LOT of RE groups especially years ago, span decades. A lot of older brokerages did business over decades. There are apartment dwellers, including garden apts…who have held apartments for 40 plus years, they often have old photos clearly showing building features. A lot of families have owned buildings for long periods. But this being the Heights, you’ll have to deal with trusts. One source are older family owned contractors/home reno firms that were active in the Heights pre ’65. Look at old area publication’s ads for names. A lot of the old, well run, contractors have job records which contain before and after photos these may still have been retained today. Good luck.

Yes, all those 25-year-old miscreants from the 1970s are back—except they’re now 65+ and their arthritis restricts their burglaries…

  • CHASESGILBERT

Check my commercial account @TrillionaireVintage. The other is my long dormant personal account.

  • Banet

He speaks the truth. 45,000. Nicely done.

  • CHASESGILBERT

    Thanks ; ))

  • Andrew Porter

Ooh, those Evil Rent Control people. They should be shipped to Guantanamo, left without air conditioning…

  • Jeffrey Smitj

No, but there are guys from like 20 years ago who are now suddenly back and we’ve had over 50 year old types found with weapons. But its the direction of the city were really talking about here.

The Brooklyn Historical Society has several photos on their site showing Furman Street before the construction of the BQE and the Promenade. I would post one here, but Theresa would remove it.

You might also go over there and look through their photo collection.

My impression—I moved here in 1968—is that what you now see from the Promenade is what was there then.

Provide me your e-mail and I’ll send you what I have. I suggest a temporary G-Mail account.

She has seven cats in 500 sq feet, pays $400 a month, rarely leaves her apartment, steals packages from the neighbors and runs a scam where she rents out her apartment via an Airbnb like site without mentioning the seven cats and the sickly smell of cat urine that fills even the hall. According to the super, her guests all have to leave – it’s seriously unhealthy – and lose their $500 deposit.

    How would you like it?

  • Brixtony

    Dear neighbors,
I made the mistake , in a moment of weakness, to respond to Obersturmbannführer Schmidt. I suggest that this troll is destroying this blog and should be ignored. I am going to tune him out from now on (except when I say hello to him on the street, which so far has been a hoot).

  • Boerum Bill

Can we bring the weekly police report back to this blog, especially since the warm crime season is looming. Thanks!

  • Andrew Porter

There are things that can be done. I suggest you call 311, ask them. Complaining here does nothing, and borders on illegality.

  • Reggie

Does instagram still plan to move away from chronological posts? That would blow up your handsome formatting.

  • Jeff Smith

OK, anyone can understand, if the conditions are as you describe, but but the status of the elderly, fixed income Heights residents is a sensitive matter because they are a critical part of the crime and unsavory conduct control. Hundreds of arrests for serious crimes over the last four decades are the result of sharp elderly residents who got involved often disregarding personal danger.

My film with Martin has some of the pictures you are referring to:

SB, step back off the cliff of reason and fall into the crevasse of paranoia. There, you will find the alternate reality of some on this blog.

No, you just proved my suspicions Are correct!

  • StudioBrooklyn

Gotta say, you make it sound like a lot more fun than a bunch of jerks with internet connections and a few too many spare minutes throughout each day (I speak inclusively of myself here).

  • StudioBrooklyn

I wouldn’t know who to say hi to. I’m holding out for Claude to arrange a meet and greet at Chez Moi.

  • CHASESGILBERT

Believe me, I’ve called 911, 311 and made written complaints to the management company.

I’m not complaining here to accomplish anything. I shared the story to support the notion that there is a rise in crime – much of it that goes under-reported or unreported as addressed above.

  • Cascascas

Ophthalmologist or Optometrist? If the former, I would recommend Dr Babb at 185 Montague. Full range of services and friendly staff

  • CHASESGILBERT

    Thanks, Reggie!

Thankfully, it looks like a) they’re not changing the algorithm and b) the changes made would effect the scrolling feed of users one follows – not their homepage which would still be chronological.

    That’s my latest understanding ; ))

    You pervert.

Thursday March 31st shortly past 7:00pm on Cadman Plaza West just North of 75 Henry…

A group of teenagers aggressively blocked the path of a petite young lady walking north. One boy pushed another boy into the young lady.

I firmly said “Guys, leave her alone. Seriously!”
At that point they teenagers rapidly walked south on Cadman Plaza West and the young lady was on her way.

I am a featured and guest speaker at at least 20 events yearly.
Come and hear me speak! Over the years thousands have come to my
presentations. Anyone who wants to say hello to me can simply come to one of my talks.

  • Jeffrey Smith

Well, this is exactly what we’re now, more and more, seeing. All manner of vermin are now becoming more and more emboldened. We are simply spiraling backward in this city…

  • Jorale-man

An unfortunate postscript to last week’s filming in Willowtown: an elderly man apparently slipped and hit his head on the snowy set of the Will Smith movie that was being shot there.

Very interesting. I appreciate both your and Andrew’s efforts to rescue this open thread with something a little more interesting than paranoia about street crime. :)
