I hope the expected downpour tonight doesn’t seriously impact attendance at the Brooklyn Heights Association’s annual meeting at St. Francis College. I expect to be there, slightly damp.

    Me, too.

Given the BHA’s resources, why can’t there ever be something above very minimal quality wine.

I mean its SO vexing, EVERY year I have the urge to donate a good $30+ Bottle just to try to break the pattern. Its amazing given the backgrounds of who is attracted to the gathering, they serve just above absolute yuppie level red ink.

You’d expect at least Petrus. But the BHA Malthusianism extends even to wine….

I think I’ll be subversive and bring a few bottles of a really good Mosel.

I suspect if there were more Republicans the wine would be better. :-)

Wonderful Caretaker for the Elderly is Still Available:

As I posted last week, my mother, who recently passed away (93 years old), was taken care of in her home 24/7 for the last 3 years by the most wonderful, loving and competent companion.

If you are interested in such a caretaker for someone you love, please email me at RemsenStreetDweller@gmail.com

Why is Fascati’s so stingy with their condiments? I’ve resigned myself to the fact they don’t have parmesan, but now they seem to be even keeping the rep pepper and italian seasoning.

Recommendation for NY Water Taxi (owned by the Durst Organization) – switch to biodiesel and a retrofit of their engines.

Wow Jeffery, an appreciation of fine wine and classical music (Barge Music thread), you are certainly showing us a different side of yourself today.
What’s next, squash at the Casino?

  • DIBS

I’ve never thought Fascati’s pizza needed anything extra. Besides, I bet that grated parmesan is the same stuff that’s been in the news lately.

I’ve been a customer since they opened and have never found them to be stingy on the condiments or anything else.

I always thought we should start a RIVAL pizza place and we should name it the FASCISTI pizza and have the boxes play giovinezza when opened….

We used to share that “idea” between us as we used to walk around Carol Gardens in the late 60’s/early 70’s and watch old guys sitting on stoops or boxes fall out in poorly concealed hysterics except the few Lincoln brigade types who would have heart attacks.

    That’s a great suggestion (and not unprecedented: http://energy.agwired.com/2015/10/08/new-seattle-ferry-running-on-biodiesel/), but…
    1. Does Durst read this blog?
    2. Is that logistically feasible? I wonder what a mass retrofit costs (including losses due to temporary decommissions during retrofits) vs. buying a whole new fleet of vessels.

Stingy with the cheese these past few years as well.

  • DIBS

Maybe instead of complaining about it on a blog you might mention it to them.

  • DIBS

    Why don’t you ask them???

  • Heightsman

Several times my friend, several times. Assuming is never good form.

  • KXrVrii1

Because I’m mildly autistic and have trouble talking to strangers, so asking anonymously on a neighborhood blog where lots of long time residents post and may have some knowledge is much easier.

  • Brixtony

I’m sure that would appeal to you and the other members of the Brooklyn Heights Bund. You could sell John Birch beer, Franco flakes, Adolf’s appetizers…. The possibilities are endless.

  • DIBS

Sorry to hear that. I think you will just have to ask them for “extra.” I’m sure they’ll give it to you

I clarified my post, they don’t refuse the pepper and herbs, they just now seem to keep them behind the counter instead of out in the open.

Combining that with their longstanding refusal to provide parmesan, made me wonder if there was any color on the owners being a bit stingy, or just curious if others had a similar reaction.

    I still like their pizza.

  • KXrVrii1

    When did they open?

Has the no parmesan policy been in effect since that time?

  • AEB

…retroactive membership in the Lincoln Brigade?

FYI– the State Comptroller is taking a neighborhood noise survey. Helitour complaints, anyone? https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/THT58FG

Or how about car horns on Clinton Street. Nonstop road rage there…

I’ve realized I’ll be less wet if I take the subway one stop, save all that walking in the rain and, they’re saying, 50 mph wind gusts.

They always give me Parmesan when I get a plate.
