Hi. Anybody know what’s up with the Variety Mart? It never seems to be open anymore, yet I’ve seen no signs that indicate it’s going out of business.

  • BrooklynCoffeeLover

As a north heights resident, you are correct. Those are some of my favorite places to eat. Rarely go to Atlantic.

  • Karl Junkersfeld

An Urgent Care location will soon be opening on Montague street at the Crumbs location:

  • Eddyde

    LOL hilarious…

  • Bongo

I’m glad that some of the staff got to stay on, even though it’s been a long time since the spot was open. I take back my cynicism, and will stop by soon.

  • StoptheChop

Happened again last night- at least until 1:30 am. I contacted CB1 in Manhattan, but they need to pinpoint the source. It was one of the piers south of pier 17, right? I think this may become a regular “event”– I remember reading about it in connection with the New! Improved! South Street Seaport area.

  • CHatter

Even louder last night. It is the Watermark Bar at Pier 15. 78 South Street. The name of the DJ is DJ Blaze. I filed a complaint at 311; the police called back @ 11pm and said that they would go around and listen but obviously did nothing. I’ll go and fetch my bat.

  • DIBS

Sociale is my favorite. JTH’s burger, chicken and pork chop are excellent.

  • DIBS

Tough man with his bat on the Internet!!!

  • CHatter

I was going to say something about heading over there in my Internet Rolls Royce, but figured that a step too far. Only an idiot would have an internet Rolls Royce.

  • MaryT

Thanks, Karl. Do you know it’s affiliation?

  • MaryT

Contact Department of Environmental Protection, too. They’re responsible for monitoring noise levels and issuing violations. That said, I was at an event near the Seaport in June, and the blaring music from docking cruise ships was unbelievable. We’re living in a raucous, yahoo time, and the mayor doesn’t care. Where did my sophisticated city go, and so fast?

  • ldny

He provided a link with that info.

  • Concerned

I tried buying an internet Rolls Royce but my credit screwed me.

  • ColumbiaHeightster

So by saying, “people in the Heights especially north of Montague will not venture that far to Atlantic,” you are referring to a select group of “people”? Very confusing.

  • Heightsman

No just not ALL people. Dear lord you must be a lawyer. Interpreting everything. I don’t have the energy.

  • MaryT

Just heard that the hoopla at the Seaport was a TV reality show set in – Staten Island! @CHatter is right!

  • StudioBrooklyn

If everyone else reading this is like us they still call it Peas and Pickles, out of habit.

  • ShinyNewHandle

SB – She’s talking about the hardware store on Montague:

    http://www.yelp.com/biz/variety-mart-brooklyn

(Not All-In-One Mart, fka Peas and Pickles, which is very much alive.)

  • StudioBrooklyn

Ohhhhh right! Was worried I’d made such a mistake as soon as I posted.

  • ShinyNewHandle
  • MaryT

    Ah, right. Thanks.

Just walked by a while ago; it’s open. My wife tells me they usually close for vacation in August.

  • Andrew Porter

Yes, I seldom go to Atlantic and to Trader Joe’s, Sahadi’s, Two for the Pot, defining seldom as every 4 or 5 days. I just don’t eat out very much, especially when all that food from TJ’s is taking up space on my shelves.

  • Andrew Porter

Here’s my photo of one of those guys at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden:

  • Andrew Porter

The real estate management office at 43 Hicks Street, the corner of Middagh (which once housed Rowf! and Paula’s Place) is now vacant.

The rental building at the SE corner of Henry and Clark has been sold for $25 million, according to The Real Deal.

An Urgent Care facility will take the place of Crumbs on Montague, because we don’t have enough of those in BH, right? (The one coming to Court between Montague and Remsen has been under construction for at least a year or two, it seems to me.)

And how long is “momentarily”? The pub on the south side of Montague has been “momentarily closed for inventory” for, what, two months now?

  • AEB

And let me send the following into the ether: would the as-yet-to-be tenant of the former real estate office kindly, please, por favor, je vous en prie remove the horrible, weed- and garbage -attracting, dog-pissed-upon “log cabin” planters, always in disuse, from in front of the site?

    Thank you.
