Does anybody know the deal with the elderly woman wondering around the north heights very late at night usually on weekends? she has bushy-ish hair, sometimes wears a red coat and is always carrying many plastic bags filled with things. She always looks very sad and it saddens me deeply. I don’t know if she’s homeless or what but i see her wondering around, sitting on random stoops, or sitting in the clark street subway station sometimes as late as 2:30 am.

Next time you see her maybe try to approach her and ask her if she is okay and that you feel concerned. It is possible that she is just lonely and likes to take walks and sit in the subway to be around people. Odd I know, but anything is possible.

Also have a marathon upstate NY Sunday. Maybe next year. :)

Check out NYRR.org or NYCRuns.com. They host the most around town. There are others here and there. runningintheusa.com has a lot listed, but they are listed by state and not city.

I guess I should have been clearer in my original post. I used to be an NYRR member – I was more curious if people have favorite races, not just in general where to find them. But thanks!

novel idea…speak to her

In my case, you are Very Wrong.

Sounds like the rain will be out of the way by Sunday and upstate temps look cool. I want to wish you good luck this weekend!

Just wondering– has anyone else felt sick in the past week or so from the smell of the roof being tarred at PS8?

Ohhh will you please take your 750 votes and go away already!!

You mean when some nasty person starts claiming that our neighbors who have volunteer to serve on the Brooklyn Public Library board are corrupt criminals?
Ohhhhhhhh wait that would be you Marsha!

Its not a quality Brooklyn Heights Blog thread without some complete and total moron comparing some trivial nuisance to Fascism. No Doug, someone disliking another persons blog posts is not, in any vague possible way even closely related to Fascism.
Eddyde
No, but I’m starting to get nauseous over all the petty complaints on this blog… which is itself a petty complaint… Barf…

The PS8 roof-tarring has been going on for weeks, hasn’t it? It’s not good. It kills me to close my windows in this wonderful weather (and I still smell it).
I thought the PS8 roof was scheduled to be finished by end of summer. I’m very ready for it to be done.

The roof needed work. But ongoing toxic fumes aren’t a petty complaint.

We shall see

@David on Middagh, Yes– it has been going on for the past few weeks. I keep hoping they will finish. I’ve noticed feeling ill from the smell more so in the past 10 days– perhaps due to the section they are working on and its proximity to where I live? I am not sure. In any case, I too am looking forward to them completing their work! Thanks for responding!

Hi @Eddyde:disqus. I’m not trying to complain, but genuinely was curious if others also had been feeling unwell from the toxic smell emanating from the roof work. Imagine living in (and trying to work and study in) an apartment that smells like a newly paved road baking in the hot sun– despite keeping the windows closed and using an air purifier. This hasn’t been a one time event, but something that has been ongoing on a regular basis in recent weeks.

Sound equipment in the park on Cadman Plaza started loudly with ‘testing, testing’ at 6:28 a.m. this morning, waking us all up. This is unreasonably early. Who can we complain to about this?

Honestly, do you actually live here in the Heights? I think not!
