Brooklyn Heights Couple Seeks Wedding Presents Stolen from Car Parked on Cranberry Street

We received this dispatch from a Brooklyn Heights resident who was the victim of a car break in earlier this week. She is seeking the help of her neighbors in retrieving some “irreplaceable mementos” taken by the thief.

I am a local Brooklyn Heights resident and loyal Brooklyn Heights Blog reader. Overnight our car, which was parked across from the Catholic church on Cranberry between Hicks and Henry, was broken in to. Someone smashed in the right hand side passenger window. Among the items taken were irreplaceable mementos from our recent wedding such as our champagne toasting flutes, cake topper, and cake knife and server. I’m not sure if this is something you do on your blog but I was wondering if it would be possible to appeal to local residents to see if they had witnessed anything out of the ordinary last night or had any information that may lead to the return of these precious items?

Here are the items:

There is a reward for the items. If you have information call 570-575-0112.

Not sure what’s going on but someone broke the driver’s seat window of one of the firemen’s cars on Hicks the other morning — broad daylight, busy street — and took his FDNY placard.

  • Reggie

Took his UFA placard. Just sayin’.

That is just awful. But I can’t tell you how many times I have walked down Cranberry Street early in the morning and found a car with a smashed window right across from the Catholic Church.

You would think the cops would set up cameras or something.

That stretch of Cranberry is the worst for car break-ins…a decade ago, someone stole the battery out of my car on that block. Very little foot traffic at night.

What sort of hick area code is 570? Guessing these transplants have out of state plates as well. Good riddence to hickster trash.

  • AnnOfOrange

This is an incredibly stupid response, insulting to someone who had a personal loss and felt that Brooklyn Heights is sufficiently neighborly that there was a chance of recovering their loss. BTW: area code 570 is located in northeast Pennsylvania, including the cities of Wilkes-Barre, Scranton, and Williamsport.

You do not represent the classy people of Brooklyn Heights! Talk about hickster trash. Look in the mirror.

Many trees on the south side of the block make it a frequent target of smash-and-grab thieves. Coupled with the fact that the south side has mostly church-owned properties much of the way toward Henry makes it a Reallt Bad Place to park, esp. in the summer.

Why can’t one or more private citizens
Simply hook up any DVR Camera to their
Video recorder or computer and begin
Their OWN watch. Why does government
    Have to always do it?

When a group of residents did this on
Remsen St a few years ago they were
    Able to identify…and “deter” several
Youths and one repeat offender. Word
Spread quickly….you have to take the
    Lead sometimes

Cindy.. you are a true idiot through and through. Some of us dont have time to “monitor” the area .. we arent all retired or rich and have other things to do like work at a job and raise children. … Will you pay for my camera setup? If police want to use that video into evidence you will be asked to go to court .. honestly who wants that kind of civic duty

  • Remsen Street Dweller

    Very rude, bialy.
