This Friday and Saturday Under Armour is bringing its Elite 24 Basketball Tournament back to Brooklyn, this year at Pier 2, Brooklyn Bridge Park. The tournament features top high school hoops stars from around the country (see roster here). The action starts at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow (Friday, August 22) and continues on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. There’s more information here.
Also at the Park this weekend: another Pier 6 Family Field Day, along with Seining the River Wild on Saturday (unfortunately, the re-enactment of Washington’s crossing of the East River, scheduled for Saturday, has been cancelled). On Sunday Smorgasburg will be on the Pier 5 uplands (near the Joralemon Street entrance), Brooklyn Bridge Park, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and, starting at noon, there will be a free Docent Tour of Pier 1. Baylander will be open for tours Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Brooklyn Heights Cinema, which will be closing its doors on August 27 pending a move to DUMBO, is showing Magic in the Moonlight and A Most Wanted Man. On Saturday evening at 11:30 there will be another “almost midnight” showing of Willow Creek. More information and showtimes are here.
On Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Bargemusic will present works by Haydn, Beethoven, and Schubert performed by violinist Mark Peskanov, cellist Edward Arron, and pianist Jeewon Park. On Sunday at 4:00 p.m. cellist Jeffrey Solow will have his second, and concluding, performance of Bach’s cello suites, with commentary. There’s more information and buy tickets here. Saturday afternoon at 3:00 there will be a free, family oriented “Music in Motion” concert. Doors open at 2:45; first come, first seated.
