Any inkling on what will go in on Montague?

Oh, joy! Another Duane Reade! I mean, Rite Aid. Or do I mean CVS? Well, another cheap but not-so-cheap pharmacy.

    An honor and a privilege!

  • Jorale-man

Probably a CVS – Adding to the rich tapestry of shopping experiences in that area.

  • miriamcb

    Duh! You’re probably right.

There’s good money that a bank, jeweler, nail salon or crash restaurant will get to it first!

…or a candy store. There aren’t enough candy stores between the candy store and the candy store…

    Hoping it’s not a bar…

  • Jorale-man

A bar, to me, would be okay if it was an interesting, low-key place. A gastropub or quirky cocktail bar. But alas, the trend on Montague has always been to serve the lunchtime court crowd and people from Downtown, not local residents.

Too true and, now, factor in tourists. I do miss an Annie’s Blue Moon or Eamonn’s, sometimes.

So the story says that the new Rite Aid opens on Thursday, but the headline says New Rite Aid Store Will Open Wednesday. Which is Rite, I mean right?

  • Quinn Raymond

Sad to see a chain store replacing the 24-hour deli that used to be there. That place was awesome.

I guess it will be nice to get something into that space though, and the fact that it’s 24-hours is good.

It opens on Thursday morning at 7a.m.

As a person who lives very close to the new Rite Aid I don’t have a very good feeling about the store being good neighbors. This Rite Aid is in a bit more residential area than the Montague Street location. Will store management be considerate of the neighbors with regard to noise outside the store late at night? Garbage outside the store? Noisy trucks in the morning for deliveries? The store lighting that lights up the block like a movie shoot? I doubt it.

  • Zorg_Montague

Unfamiliar with the term “crash restaurant.”

  • miriamcb

I live in the building it’s housed in. We’re all worried too. It appears they will be doing their unloading on the Clinton street side and their trash will go out on Clinton instead of Joralemon too. I think it will affect the block appeal and alter the walking traffic in probably a not-so-positive way.

I also hope there is some kind of pest control with a food mart going in!

Sorry, but that ‘deli’ was filthy.

  • Quinn Raymond

I never noticed. I did notice you could buy things like Sriracha there at 2 in the morning.

  • Chubby Burkhardt

I agree that was a filthy deli and never purchased prepared foods from behind the counter. However the place was good if you needed beer or any other beverage. Secondly, the flowers sold outside gave some nice color to an otherwise drab sidewalk.

I notice the new store has several steps leading to the new pharmacy inside. Glad they’re ADA compliant!
