Crumbs Bake Shop Might Be Saved

CNBC is reporting that Crumbs Bake Shop, which closed all its stores including its Montague Street outlet on Monday, may be getting a bailout from “an investor group that includes the Fischer Family and Marcus Lemonis, Chairman and CEO of Camping World and Good Sam Enterprises and star of CNBC’s “The Profit.”

On Monday, the gourmet bake shop closed all of its stores roughly one week after its shares were delisted from the Nasdaq stock exchange.

In a CNBC in-person interview in April, Crumbs CEO Ed Slezak placed part of the blame for the company’s difficulty its flagship product, saying the cupcake is “too narrow of an assortment” and “too tight a niche to attract a sufficient number of people” daily.

    Sadly, the deal just fell through because SUNY wants to sell the property for condos.

    off-topic, but does anyone know what was going on at the Clark St. 2/3 station this morning around 6:45am? There were a lot of police, the entrance on Clark St was closed (whereas the Henry St entrance was open), there was a hose that was pumping out water from the stairwell, etc. In addition to ~10 uniformed police officers who were directing pedestrians, there were also a small number of tactical officers in heavy gear (i.e., Kevlar helmets, vests, etc.) and a tactical riot shield by the staircase.

    I immediately concluded that a renegade band of unlicensed proprietors had been setting up a Chinese nail salon restaurant in that staircase and had to be blasted out by riot police with fire hoses.

    All kidding aside, what was going on?!
